Arabs (as a society not individuals) do not display tolerance with minorities, ethnic and religious and otherwise.
it is time for the Arabic society to start accepting differences, otherwise we are loosing our best people to immigration, just because they can believe whatever they want and have personal freedom in the west. We would end up with an ignorant close minded homogeneous self righteous oppressive patriarchal majority.

check out our Arab Lesbian Women and Allies Network (ALWAAN) at http://www.alwaan.org .

Our website features queer Arab related content and forums and is meant to be a space where Arab gay , bisexuals , lesbians and all queers can connect with each other and can engage with non queers or non Arabs who are interested in connecting with Arab lesbians.

I think people's greatest fear is to not have something to believe in, something that makes them feel superior to someone else, however for all of us who are homosexuals, we know that what we are is true and real. To everyone who has common sense, Thank you for making this world a better place, unlike others who create hate and violence against one another.

I recently returned from studying art history in parts of eastern europe and middle east. However, my interest and concern has turned to current issues in the muslim and arab culture/world.
I, too, feel that certain minorities and people are enduring situations that I have little insight to.

How would I be able to get involved?

Hi, thanks for your comment. I am implying that certain girls experience homosexuality because they have easier access to women, and this is an observation confirmed by some of the lesbians I have spoken to, not a fact of why women in general become lesbians as each one has their own reasons. In the Arab world, this is just one of the factors that contributes to homosexuality in some (and maybe, rare) cases.

I see that you too need to make some effort concerning your look towards arab women wether queer or straight.

What do you mean? I'm an Arab woman, I don't think I insulted our status in the above article. What else do you disagree with?

Just found ur article. I must admit it's quite interesting but you made quite a slip by saying: In Saudi, this is a major problem. I have two friends currently attending high school in Jeddah. Both of them are lesbians. Their reasons? It’s an all-girls school, making it easier to find love with each other than with men, who they hardly have a chance to meet. These girls understand the severity of the issue, that’s why almost all of them keep it a secret.

Girls don't turn lesbians cause there are no men in their lives just like boys don't turn gay cause of the lack of women in their life...

I see that you too need to make some effort concerning your look towards arab women wether queer or straight.
