Egyptians Invest

This site is pretty much focused on the Israeli-Lebanese conflict, and with good reason. Hundreds of dead civilians and the prospect of a wider regional war certainly make an issue easily the most important one facing the Middle East. (What’s less focused on is that this recipe is the same in Iraq.) However, there are still events unfolding in other parts of the Middle East. The one I’m linking to now is that of Samih Sawiris, an Egyptian real estate tycoon who is one of the Sawiris brothers. These brothers own the Orascom corporation, which has investments in dozens of countries, and are the richest family in Egypt. Apprently Samih is undertaking a multi-hundred-million dollar venture to establish a ski resort in Andermatt, Switzerland. The economic fortunes of thousands of young Egyptians rely on Egyptian tycoons such as Sawiris raising the profile of Egypt as a viable economic power and investment destination. This undoubtedly helps.
