My main problem with that video is that much of the questions and answers, including parts that may very well be pertinent, are inaudible due to background noise.

Add in the fact that HRW activists *have* been known to have anti-Israel bias in several cases, the supposed shelling of the family on the beach in which HRW representative blamed Israel a few hours into the investigation when in fact matters are much more vague(current tentative conclusion, AFAIK is that it was an old unexploded munition of uncertain provenance) being case-in-point.

Point by point addressing, according to transcript from la.imc.:
1)”“found no cases in which Hezbollah deliberately used civilians as shields to protect themselves from IDF attacks.””

This isn’t born out by several reports by Christian Lebanese, published in the media.Did Husseini do his homework or does he quote only sources that agree with his opinion?

2)”SAM HUSSEINI: Why does Israel refuse to acknowledge its possession of nuclear weapons? And Mordechai Vanunu, the Israeli whistleblower, has suggested a tradeoff, where you have a nuclear-free Middle East — [inaudible]

DANIEL AYALON: Sir, you are talking and –

SAM HUSSEINI: — Israelis nuclear weapons. Isn’t Israel’s nuclear possession provocative in the region? ”

Interesting to note Husseini doesn’t let the Ambassador finish the sentence. Is he interviewing the man or attacking him?Such technique, depending on body language we’ll never see, because there is no actual video, can be easily used to induce stress levels which make it harder to formulate coherent answers, let alone create a dialogue.Another point:What exactly *is* the relevance of nuclear weapons to the Lebanon situation?

3)I do not see a single point were he was lying.Hizzb’Allah’s use of ballbearing shrapnell in their warheads is well documented, as is their use of human shields and caching weapons in civilian appartments, IIRC Jan England even denounced them for it at the beginning of the war, after he was out of Lebanon, and there were documented firefights between UNIFIL and Hizzb’Allah when the former tried to help evacuate South Lebanon. His comment of “go ask the Lebanese people” sounded more exasparated then anything- along the lines of “if you don’t believe me go ask the people they hide behind”.

Agreed… the claim that the ambassador is ‘lying’ about anything is rubbish

the journalist interviewing him is trying to pretend as if Hizbullah is anything other than a pain in the ass paramilitary force that sacrifices lebanese, arab-israeli, and its favorite israeli jewish lives at the altar of ‘resistance’

cry me a river… what did they expect from israel?

b) ayalon’s position on the nuclear issue is plain as day and makes perfect sense if anyone, for a moment, contemplates israel’s strategic position vis-a-vis the region. absent a nuclear deterrent, Iran’s posture today would be even more radical, and who knows that any arab-israeli peace accords would be signed, for the dream of annihilating israel would be alive and kicking in the arab world

today, its ahmadinejad who is desperately trying to breathe new life in to that dream, the dream of nuclear holocaust… but its clearly not israel that is threatening the arab world with its weaposn.. if israel was, for a moment, adopting an offensive posture, it could wipe out ‘palestine’ in 2 days, and it could take out lebanon in a way it hasn’t tried to

this country is not flexing its muscle. missiles could be reigning down on beirut 60 a second, the firepower is there, but the truth is they are using restraint, and are not using a fraction of their military might…

this is assymetric warfare.. welcome to the new middle east

What’s ignorant and quite obvious is the total disregard of the Fact on the Ground that 40 years of military occupation of Palestine is at the root of the violence in the ‘Holy’ Land.

Reality on the Ground is that Occupation always dehumanizes both the occupied and the occupiers.

Reality on the Ground is that Israel never gave up total control of Gaza’s air, sea and land borders- the ‘disengagement’ was just a re-deployment and Gaza is the largest open air prison in the world with 1.5 million ‘inmates’!

The media continues to cite the fact that Vanunu’s photos of 21 years proved Israel is the ONLY country in the ME that has nukes,

BUT continues to ignore that Israel convicted Vanunu in July 2007 of speaking to foreign media in 2004-Amy Goodman’s interview being prime testimony against him-

And has now sentenced him to 6 more months in jail. His Appeal begins Nov. 13, 2007.
