New project currently in discussion

After ME Faith is set up and ready to run, I will be working on a new website dedicated to full coverage of Middle Eastern news. Journalists in the Middle East often complain about the heavy filters employed by our media sources, rejecting many stories for not being news worthy, and thus we never know most of what happens in the region. It will function like Oh My News (click the “international” tab for the English version), which reports events that aren’t covered in the mainstream media, with its main message being that there are other more important things going on in the world, and we need to be aware of them.

This new project will feature at least 2 or more unofficial journalists reporting and representing each Middle Eastern country. Each week, at least one story will be leaked into our website, and depending on how successful it is we’ll fund it ourselves and turn it into a newsletter available in as many countries as possible. However, we would need a lot of participants for this to take place and gathering the right writers usually takes months.

My focus will be minority rights in Bahrain, but I also hope to report from Saudi Arabia by talking to activists whose works and efforts go unnoticed, under-appreciated, and hardly ever reported. By doing this, I hope to help young activists in Saudi Arabia establish stronger networks.

Due to lack of time I think the only thing we’ll be able to work with is the submission of very few articles per month (getting more is doubtful) in this initial stage. It will take years before it’s ever successful, I realize this. Still worth giving it a shot, though. Contact me if you’re interested or know someone’s who’s interested and we can discuss this further.

More about this around December. This Novemeber, I’m busy perfecting the ME Faith project (with Sankar) and getting more writers and editors for it. I will be needing your suggestions as soon as the site is up, so please check back. Launching date is approaching! :)

In the meantime, keep checking Bahrain Uncensored (still under construction) for more news about Mahmood’s Den and give him your support.
