Israel Developing Anti-Militant "Bionic Hornet"
JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel is using nanotechnology to try to create a robot no bigger than a hornet that would be able to chase, photograph and kill its targets, an Israeli newspaper reported on Friday.
The flying robot, nicknamed the “bionic hornet,” would be able to navigate its way down narrow alleyways to target otherwise unreachable enemies such as rocket launchers, the daily Yedioth Ahronoth said.
…”The war in Lebanon proved that we need smaller weaponry. It’s illogical to send a plane worth $100 million against a suicidal terrorist. So we are building futuristic weapons,” Peres said.
…Prototypes for the new weapons are expected within three years, he said.
Coooooool. Science fiction movies are coming to life. Me support! Anything that takes innocent civilians out of the equation should be supported. Go Israel! Okay, I think I better run and hide somewhere now. Ouch! Eggs are already being thrown at me. OUCH! Crap, okay okay fine I’m sorry. Death to the filthy Jews.

*Cheers new weapon and sf*
PS.Are you an SF&F fan as well?:)
On the one hand, it sounds like a great way of reducing civilian casualties.
On the other hand, Deputy PM Lieberman would want to use it to assassinate Hamas’ leadership.
Back on the first hand, would that be a bad thing?
Ya more way to kill people. Celebrate it…
Jina, I celebrate it because that’s one more way to lower civilian casualties.Plain and simple. No more(or at least very much less) Beit Hannuns. No more Kaffar Kanas. If that’s not a reason for cheering I don’t know what is.
They want to use it to assassinate politicians. Look at both sides of the issue or maybe how about eliminate the root cause rather then putting bandages on wounds.
Jina yes… more way to kill BAD people without actually involving innocents.
Idealism is great but it isn’t reality.
And I just found something even more worth of celebration:Using similar miniaturization techniques an Israeli team is building a robot that would be able to swim in your spine for medical examination purposes.
Details here
Jina, why can’t we try doing both simultaneously?
Trying to heal some wounds while at the same putting bandages on others isn’t a bad idea don’t you think?
*curses link skills*I hope this works
AntonGarou I think you were trying to do this
This is the last time I try to link
Exactly.I always get confused about when to use which tag.Thanks.
nice idea the hornet just to make sure to hit the right target if it’s only used for the right purpose & to avoid civilan deaths – but very bad idea, if it’s used with bad intent – weapons are neutral – it depends who uses them & with which purpose (no wise fish would go anywhere without a porpoise (Lewis Caroll).)
Well if it is really successful, then maybe there will be future peace, literature, medicine, prizes named for it. Give some competition to the folks up there in Sweden.. Its name will be…..The Hornet’s Nest of Peace, of Literature, of Medicine, etc.
“Idealism is great but it isn’t reality.” I agree with you 100%. I am for anything that gets rid of bad people and prevents harm to innocent ones. I admit that I struggle with idealism and hope constantly for breakthroughs in understanding. I can hardly believe that there is hatred between groups in the 21st century. It seems that hatred belongs to some dark, barbaric time in the past. Ah well, wishing don’t make it so!
hey, you found the micromechanical sperm thingy before me…
Not fair!
