Is This Normal?
Last night I was pleasantly surprised when a ten year-old girl put all six pages of her original story on my lap.
It’s so great that she’s started writing at such an early age. And her Arabic is almost perfect.
Only one thing bothered me, though. The story was about a woman who has an illigitimate child and tries to get rid of it.
Is is just me, or is the content of her story disturbing?
What do you think?

Disturbing, yeah. But also impressive. I think she was exposed to these sorts of issues at too early an age. I would try to find the source of her thinking.
I think it is disturbing.
It’s impressive, too; but a ten-year old girl picking up such a story somewhere could very well be in some trouble in any country in the world.
(BTW, I always thought that the term “illigitimate child” is troubling. Even assuming that childbirth out of wedlock is morally wrong, wouldn’t it be the mother and father who are “illigitimate”? The child didn’t do anything wrong.)
You’re right, Andrew. I’m against calling any child illigetimate aswell. However, it is the term she used in the story, and that is why I repeated it here.

Yup…for a ten year-old, this story probably is more of a comment very close to home as opposed to a comment on society.
Never know for sure…but that would be my first guess. Does not mean her…but somebody that is close to.
I think its great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No questions asked, yet.
I have written about 30 American notebook pages just tryng to write a short story introduction of monologue, last year’s homework assignment. And I still can’t get what is in my head to work out as a monologue. So this child is clearly on to something, regardless of where she is getting it from, right now. If I were Sarah I would play-act the story out with her.
It’s a soft cry for help – the reaction has to be as soft & careful – she will tell you more if she knows that you keep her secrets well
I see nothing wrong with this except that this girl is a genius.
Content of the story is probably based on reality. Something that most adults would never talk about.
I agree with Esra’a
