Time to say HI

by

Here I go. I got my password almost a month ago and every week I told myself: come on, just write down some words. It is not that difficult. So now, I do write you from Germany, actually I am even a German. But you guess, not a 100%. So the other half goes back to Syria (or Lebanon where my fathers parents were born).

Just a short cut about me: I am 25 years old, work as an engineer in the automotive industry and try to study arabic.

What am I doing here? First off all I do read your blogs, e-zines, whatever. I really enjoy that. The next level should be that I do write interesting things for you. I was thinking about writing how German society looks at the middle east. Or lets say glimpse at it. While there is a lot of stuff about the ME in the media (mostly bad news), you will not easily find somebody who really cares about it. Maybe that is also a reason why I am sitting in front of my computer. So let’s see what will come to my mind. Maybe things like this:

Just yesterday I watched television with my flatmate and in the news they reported about the “Holocaust-Congress” (I guess it had a different name) in Iran. They also invited some Germans who disown the Holocaust. And of course many others from all over the world who do the same. Actually these people are not allowed to hold speeches in Germany. Now you could ask about the freedom of speech? Well, we do have that but it is less precious than the truth. My flatmate could not belief. He just asked me all the time: “How come that there is a place in the world where something like this can happen.” I don’t know.

Greetings from Germany,
Samer
