Morocco calling
Hi everybody,
Morocco joins the Mideast Youth-network!
Let me introduce myself first. I’m Youssef, 23 years old and living in London.
I pledge allegiance to two countries, Morocco and the Netherlands. My parents are both Moroccans (berber father, arab mother) from the beautiful north of Morocco. They left Morocco for Europe and settled down in hedonistic Amsterdam. The city I was born and raised in.
Being a true Amsterdammer, I’m a secular-liberal fundamentalist. I’m pro-euthanasia, pro-abortion, pro-gaymarriage and pro-legalizing drugs & prostitution.
Being a true Moroccan, I’m a diehard couscous and tajine fan.
Expect me to write about Morocco, the glamorous brothel of the “Arab” world. A country with a schizophrenic identity and schizophrenic politics.
Homosexuality and identity-issues are my other main interests.
I would also like to thank Esra’a for inviting me to join this exciting community and project.
Tahallaou! (Take care!)

Welcome! I’m so glad you are joining. I’m sure that your posts are going to be very insightful and interesting. Thanks a lot for agreeing to be a part of this great community.
Youssef hallo daar
I’m no member here, but I’m a fervent participant at the dutch/moroccan forum marokko.nl so I got a little bit insight to what goes on in my former homeland and the moroccan second generation immigrants.
Would be nice to read about it here as well.
Tse.
By the way, I’m really looking forward to articles about homosexuality. I conduct a lot of interviews with Arab homosexuals and gay rights activists, I posted one of them here on the site. I think it’s a really important issue amongst our youth and the media considers this a big taboo, so it doesn’t ever get discussed.
Good, we’ll get along and welcome.
Hmm pro-legalizing drugs I understand perhaps, but if prostitution was legalized that would allow a lot of human traffickers to get away with what they do, and it would encourage sex trade because there’s a lot of money in that, especially the trade of young Eastern European women, many of whom are stuck in the Middle East.
Prostitution itself is a choice, which every women has the right to make without society telling her whether or not it’s okay, but I’m pretty freaked out by the increasing number of trafficking in the Middle East, which you can read about on our cyber campaign here.
Maybe this discussion belongs in another thread.
Well legalizing prostitution means more government-control on whats happening in that industry.
Reporting (work)abuse, trafficking etc would be a lot more easier if the government has control on who works in that industry.
(maybe I should clarify that with legalizing I meant that the prostitutes should pay taxes, apply for insurance etc just like freelancers. This should go along with harsher penalties and better backgroundchecks on the employers in the industry)
But I will write on this in the near future
Great, especially because it’s a really big issue here. In Bahrain we have plenty of Moroccan prostitutes, though the majority do it willingly, as a ‘last resort.’
Hey Youssef, wat leuk voor je. ^5
I look forward to reading more of your insights………”tussen wal en schip” lijkt me ook een heel goed onderwerp om aan te slaan.
Hello there,
I like ur honesty lol.
I’m looking forward to reading ur posts!
that is so interesting! i have been to both countries and both are beautiful!
You must be really ignorant. Islam prohibits homosexuality, prostitution and drugs. There is no debate on this issue. The laws are created by the Law-maker himself, God Almighty. If you are a Muslim you should believe in Islamic principles and not debate God’s laws. How shameful of a human being, a creature created from a drop of sperm, stand up and say that NO ONE should tell a prostitute that she is wrong? GOD, THE CREATOR OF THE HUMAN BEING AND UNIVERSE, has a right to say that fornication and adultery is forbiden and evil. God allows us to forbid what is evil and promote what is good, and that is one of the characteristics of a Muslim. I can see a girl not covered properly and say ‘Oh you girl, cover your ‘awrah (private part) for God has prohibited tabarruj (wanton display)”. For those of you who believe that your laws are better than God’s, that is plain kufr (disbelief). You should know that you will NEVER be more knowledgable nor more wise than the All-knowing Most Wise, God Almighty himself. There is no might nor power except with Him. And peace and blessings be upon His messenger.
