Free Kareem campaign updates

Author: Esra'a (Bahrain) - February 26, 2007

I am extremely proud of our Free Kareem Coalition members for sacrificing much sleep, college/work time, and working incredibly hard throughout the entire weekend in order to strengthen the Free Kareem campaign which is by far one of the strongest campaigns for a blogger ever. I have my amazing friends and colleagues to thank for that. The day we found out about the verdict, we managed to make Kareem’s case known worldwide by writing press releases, op-eds, alerting news agencies around the world, giving interviews, and helping each other out with all of our needs (preparing for interviews, exchanging information, and being supportive, encouraging, and hopeful when one of us felt down.)

Meet the staff.
Many of us risked a lot by being a part of this campaign, but we put Kareem’s interests before ours.

For more information, read our new and extremely informative Kareem FAQ, compiled by our active editor.

I assure you, the campaign will continue to grow across the globe. The team is already diverse, and we will make sure that the world knows about this so that we can gain an overwhelming amount of support in order to pressure the government to correct its grave mistake.

Thank you all for your support. I hope you believe in us, because I have much hope for my friend Kareem today. Many people have helped us out financially as well, by donating very generously to our campaign. I am just really happy that this case is on the minds of people everywhere.

We started out with almost nothing. Our first protest only had 3 people. We felt like we had no case whatsoever, but we kept rowing. I wasn’t going to sink and accept what happened to him. We fought, for months, and we kept gradually gaining the attention of what is now dozens of thousands of supporters. Today, it’s a worldwide effort to Free Kareem. And this is proof of the fact that you can make things possible if you get back up each time you fall, and you fight with patience and much strength and faith. It’s not easy at all, but it’s so worth it. I have proof now of why I should never give up. I’m so thankful for my great friends and our supporters for being inspired by us, believing in us, and most importantly, taking the time to help us in many ways.

Due to this campaign, the only blogging I will be doing will involve Kareem, for obvious reasons. I can only have time to post updates such as this one, especially now that I have exams. Throughout next week I will be busy doing research in Morocco, and I highly doubt I’ll have time to be here, but I will try my best to work on both Free Kareem and Mideast Youth as well. Right now Jina is working on a great gallery for our users, and it will make this place more interactive and useful. Adding the gallery feature was inspired by Layal’s work, whose talents I can’t help but boast about. Her work deserves to be more widely known.

Also, I apologize for the downtime we had in the past two days. Our host had a massive power outage and now we are back up on a new server.

Peace out my friends, keep your thoughts and hopes with Kareem and please know that there is no such thing as impossible if you keep working hard. You will fail, you will be laughed at, you will be ignored and even insulted. Deal with it. Accept it. Keep working, and I assure you, you will succeed. Even if your goals seem impossible, give it your best shot. And KNOW what is the best that you can give, don’t take the easy way out. Take risks, take time, use up all of your energy, and find the right people to stand by you. Things will happen. Outstanding things that no one else believed you can achieve.
