Pingback: It looks obvious
I think United Nations needs to be renamed. It should rather be given the title “United Nations with US”. That would give its operations a clearer objectivity.
Have they actually achieved anything worthy of any respect or praise throughout their existence?
It’s like a global version of the Arab League.
I agree with all of you:)
I think that the EU is the only useful one of them all.( I suppose)
The Arab League, African Union and UN are a joke sometimes.
I disagree only on the definition of the UN as a joke – it isn’t. If it was a joke we could have dismissed it and move on. However this organization being used to actually block and prevent any meaningful action to protect human rights with the disguise of democratic process. For example see how, for long time now, the French and the Chinese are blocking any effective action to stop the killing in Darfur, because the life of the people in Darfur worth less than their oil drilling rights.
Well, the concept sure isn’t a joke, but the structure is. Why can certain countries, like the U.S, get away with certain human rights abuses and others can’t? Secondly, they aren’t powerful enough to enforce any sort of laws, so if no country takes them seriously what’s the point?
If my country, God forbid, ever want to war, and the UN claimed to “rush for our help,” I’d never get my hopes up or feel secure.
Didnt the UN say no the “Iraq” war? The US was already prepared for the war and everytttthing was ready but oh well, they had to tell the UN, FYI: we r gonna invade Iraq next week, just so you know!
The UN was useful in alot of cases but they did screw up in Rwanda/Bosnia etc…
Esra’a, did the American soldiers get persecuted for the atrocities they commited in Abu Gharieb?
Reem, I’m not sure! But I believe that some action was taken against those involved. Here’s some info about that:
USA/ Iraq: Abuses without accountability a year after Abu Ghraib
For Abu Ghraib, a limited prosecution
