One Good Story and One Very Strange Story
National service volunteer fights trafficking in women
The title and the piece are very self explanatory. Yet this next piece is strange to me. Ashamed to be Arab is about a man who’s life has been very difficult and is the fault of Israelis and Palestinians. He is a mentally disturbed individual who has been incarcerated due to some violent attacks.
The thing that makes me think is why is this piece making news? Is it sensationalism or news for the sake of its obscure nature? Or is it a way to say “we” are better than “them?”
Anyway you put these are interesting stories. I would suggest reading them.

Hi Peter, as always, a very thought-provoking post! I actually read the second piece “Ashamed to be an Arab” as an indictment of both sides. A sort of “we are all completely f****d up!” indictment. And this poor man was cuaght in the middle. Used by all and cared for by none. An extreme example of the “regular” people who are the most screwed over by all of this mess!
Isn’t it funny that all the “ex-Arabs” turn out to be either Kahanists or Christian Evangelicals?
Not sure if ‘funny’ is the word I would use. It just was interesting to see this story. I was not sure how to feel about it. The picture on the front page on Ha’aretz was the most interesting part. It isn’t on the page anymore.
Also I think we all need to watch out for the all Christian Evangelicals are the same thing. There are lefty and rightwingers, but all the Kahanists are nuts.
