Al-Qaeda & CIA … Egg & Chicken
If a chicken hatches out of an egg and goes wicked, would you blame the egg it came out of or the chicken that originally laid the egg ?
Applying the same logic to Al-Qaeda & CIA. Al-Qaeda is a brainchild of CIA to help CIA against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Now if the same Al-Qaeda is acting against the interests of CIA and killing innocent people, who should be blamed, Al-Qaeda or CIA. As a matter of fact, they are still doing what CIA trained them to do. Kill people. The action remains the same but just because CIA does not agree with targets they have now, they are termed unwanted.
Do we really want Al-Qaeda to be wiped off ? But that would only means that we dispose off the egg ? Who would do something about the chicken with the capacity to give birth to more like these ?

Your post is based on a myth. According to Ayman al-Zawahiri the CIA did not create Al-Qaeda. In fact, the CIA and Al-Qaeda had no relationship at all.
Not exactly, many of the founders of the group were former Mujahadeen, and the CIA can be faulted for having given them training, but they actual group is not a CIA construction.
While I’ve come across the term CIAl-Qaeda before and have to admit it’s a clever symbol, the idea has no real validity.
Have to agree with Joel and Don here, but the fact is CIA did fund and train terrorists like Usama. Just because their guns were pointed at the enemy of the time doesn’t excuse the fact that it was CIA that laid the foundation for al-Qaida.
Fine, it could be a myth as there would be no hard evidence to support it.
But the war against the Soviets was fought by American money. That was the money that armed and trained the militants. So if now the same gun is being pointed at the people who supported this military armament in the first place, whom should the blame go to ? Shouldn’t American dollars share a certain percentage of the blame ?
Isn’t the CIA just a tool?
The cold war was a terrible time where much of the west was totally paranoid of anything slightly communist. The USA took it as it’s mission to contain the “communist threat” (which was really mostly a sovjet threat). We know what resulted from that, what happend in Chile, Iran. The moderates payed a high price. Of course the CIA played a central role in that.
I was hoping there would never be a similar situation again. Before 9/11, this seemed possible. Now America and Europe are getting more and more paranoid about Islam. Guess who pays the price.
It is exceedingly unlikely that any real information will be released about whether the American intelligence services had a hand in the creation of al-Qaeda. Intellgence services don’t talk about such things. And if it were true, al-Qaeda is not about to admit it.
But assuming it were true —
Helping the forces in Afghanistan defeat the Red Army was instrumental in bringing about the collapse of the Soviet Union. It is almost twenty years now since the dissolution of the USSR, so many people, particularly young people, have forgotten what the Cold War was.
The United States and the Soviet Union both had ICBM’s with nuclear bombs on them sufficient to produce something like 16 to 20 times overkill for their own populations and more than enough to kill everybody on the planet more than once. The weapons for nuclear exchange were on a hair-trigger for more than thirty years. The posture was called MAD, for Mutually Assured Destruction. The entire human race had a pistol to its head for a generation.
It was shown in the book “The Fate of the Earth” by Jonathan Schell that a full nuclear exchange would have led to a nuclear winter. Everyone everywhere who was not killed by the exchange itself or the radiation contamination from it, would have died of starvation from global crop failures afterward.
The collapse of the Soviet Union brought an end to MAD. American and Russian cities are no longer ground zero for huge arrays of atomic weapons. The world can go on for future generations.
Compared to that, a handful of religious fanatics running around in the mountains of Afghanistan are not much to worry about. Even the destruction of the World Trade Center was a pinprick compared to what Soviet nuclear weapons could have done.
Which is why Iran, not Iraq or Afghanistan, is what we and the world ought to be thinking about. In 1945 the United States dropped atomic bombs on Japan because they had attacked our naval base at Pearl Harbor in peacetime. If a nuclear weapon were used against us, even a small one, do you imagine that any person would remain alive anywhere in Iran afterwards? That is a future well worth avoiding.
It’s CIA which trained terrorisits in Al qaeda.al qaeda is doing what they were taught.then where did the blame go to?some american dollars can share the blame.
Dharani, it was the madrassas which trained the jihadi terrorists. Muslim refusal to accept responsibility for their own acts has a lot to with Western inability to consider Muslims as adults. So long as you blame the backward state of your societies on Israel and the United States you will never be able to actually do anything to improve them. Whenever you hear a Muslim blaming Israel or the United States, you are hearing a Muslim who will never ever do anything but blame others for the failures of Muslim societies. Israel and the United States are mere excuses for Muslims to do nothing to improve their societies.
Even as it’s officially denied by government and MSM talking heads, mainstream media and official reports have documented decades of CIA/corporate involvement in creating, financing, training and otherwise assisting terrorists, when it’s perceived to be politically and economically useful by US elites. Bin Laden and Al Qaeda did and do not necessarily know the true sources of all their money and information, and even when they knew the facts, they may have looked the other way sometimes when it suited them, just as politicians and executives in the US do. Plus, which ones are really terrorists, and which ones are agents?

1984-1994: CIA Funds Militant Textbooks for Afghanistan
http://www.historycommons.org/context.jsp?item=a84textbooks#a84textbooks
“The US, through USAID and the University of Nebraska, spends millions of dollars developing and printing textbooks for Afghan schoolchildren. The textbooks are filled with violent images and militant Islamic teachings, part of covert attempts to spur resistance to the Soviet occupation. For instance, children are taught to count with illustrations showing tanks, missiles, and land mines. Lacking any alternative, millions of these textbooks are used long after 1994; the Taliban are still using them in 2001. In 2002, the US will start producing less violent versions of the same books, which President Bush says will have “respect for human dignity, instead of indoctrinating students with fanaticism and bigotry.” (He will fail to mention who created those earlier books).”

Note- I reject violence; it is immoral and illegal, and besides that, it’s ineffective- and any terrorist organization started by genuine ideologues can be sure of being infiltrated and broken up- or co-opted and used by Western intelligence agencies, as they have a long history of doing. I am posting here as this website is being indexed by Google NEWS for some reason, and to further dialogue between the People of the Middle East and the West. Erik Larson, with regard to your “documentation” –
writing down untruths may make them documentation. It does not make them true.
Jack Kessler writes:
“Erik Larson, with regard to your “documentation” –writing down untruths may make them documentation. It does not make them true.”
Everyone, note that this is Kessler’s rebuttal to the links i posted; check them and see for yourself if the sources linked here are credible. Most of this information is not in dispute, it’s just ignored by the corporate media and the govt (and much of the public), even as many of them are the sources of the information linked.
Larson, I did look at your “sources” and they are just a long series of groundless assertions backed by no external evidence whatever. It is as though I were to assert that “Eric Larson” were merely an assumed name and that your real name is actually something else. I have no evidence, I just claim it is true. To “Eric Larson” that would be a documented fact — because I wrote it down. Everything else the soi-disant “Eric Larson” and his supposed sources say is equally groundless.
