Miss Egypt 2007

Miss Egypt 2007 was crowned just a few days ago. I thinks he’s definitely beautiful and worthy of the title, and is the prettiest Miss Egypt in years. Her and Yara Nouam were two excellent contestants. One point of contention is that she is only half-Egyptian (not a problem) and can’t even speck Arabic (problem). She made her answer in Egypt, and when asked to name a prominent woman in history who she would like to emulate, she picked Princess Diana. I personally don’t view it as a problem and I think it’s a testament to the diversity and global reach of the Egyptian community.
She is definitely beautiful enough to get into the top ten, and her English should help her make a good answer to any questions. However, I thought the same thing about Heba el-Sisy a few years back and she wasn’t chosen. The people who choose the top 15 do it to get the most audience participation ever so they only pick prominent countries. There are usually two, maximum three, token blacks and two token asians in the top 15. These five are almost never really attractive, and one of them is always Indian. Then there are like four or five Latin Americans. Then we see USA, Australia, Russia, Israel, and one eastern European country EVERY TIME.
They just skip over Miss Egypt because they don’t think a global audience associates Egypt with beautiful women, and because they know there won’t be an outcry of racism if they exclude a light-skinned Middle Easterner.

I wonder why the Egyptian selection committee chose someone to be Miss Egypt who lives in Europe and doesn’t know any Arabic? Strange.
Anyway, the best of luck to Ehsan Hatem for the Miss Universe contest and hope she becomes an ambassador of goodwill for Egypt !
Well, Egypt did produce a winner,Antigone Constanda. (who never became a jetset-star because of her weird habits. The most notable Miss Egypt btw is Dalida, who became a world star. Yeah!)
So I guess people do associate Egypt with beauty.
(then again, if you refer to the winner of this year as a he (!), I guess she wont winn this year:P )
Besides, its not about racism or something like that. People should stop bringing that up every time.
I do get where ytou coming from, but its definitely not racism
Venezuela, India, Trinidad & Tobago, USA, Puerto Rico and now China have build up a whole industry around the Big 4 Contests (Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth)
In Venezuela you even have Pageant high-schools and primary schools (where girls get trained on a very early age to become a Miss).
The contests draws a very large audience in those countries. ( a lot of the judges usually are from that region or have some interests there)
A lot of money is being spent as well by the big countries
So imagine the shock if a country like Egypt, or Swaziland for that matter both are dwarfs in that industry, would win.
So its not racism but just corruption-lite
and btw, a perfect command of English is definitely not a requirement to win the price.
Venezuelan misses usually speak pidgin-english (me wanteds worldpiss in taco mundo and lots of bambinos)
Where is a suicide bomber when you need one.
That’s not funny at all Jina. It’s actually highly offensive. Kidding around about terrorist actions isn’t appropriate. These women are portraying a refreshing and positive image of Egypt around the world and aiding Egypt in returning to liberalism and freedom.
Youssef good points. I don’t think its racism. I just think that nowadays Egypt tends to be automatically overlooked because it’s assumed to not be a contender. But that probably has a lot more to do with the politics/connections you mentioned than “racism.”
I think he’s just saying these types of things are useless.
I highly doubt some plastic face could aid Egypt in being more liberal and free. Sorry, I am just not a fan of these where women run around caked in make up trying hard to be the person whom everyone will forget in a week.
hey ehsan u r so beautiful

ehsan is a good looking but has a nice personality
so who do u think deserves to win apperance or reality?
Like someone once said (I think it was Judge Judy?) – beauty is temporary, but stupidity is forever. So I vote Ehsan.
surely she is very beautiful they rarely choose pretty one and this time she was the one
It is probably politically important that she is not fully Egyptian to have picked her. To me it can be a sign of bringing people together at these times… Even for her it is probably more important now and who knows if she will decide to even learn the arabic language. I am from latin america and at these times for better and for worse the world is merging with the middle east and even I am considering seriously the arabic language. “peace to all”
ehsan is prettttttttttty from inside and out side, she looks like a prensses, and who sid that she does not speack arabic,i know her well she speaks arabic very well but she exepress her self better in english, her father is egyptian he died a years ago and she lived with her american mom that is why she speaks english well but she lived all her life in egypt, she is a sweeeeeeeeeet hart at least she says that she never expected that she will win MOSH ZAY YARA EL MA3′ROURA ELL BET2OL ENAHA LAZEM TEKSAB,KATEK SETYN NILA LOL

well egyptian chicks,u gotta admit this girl z a knock out not just her looks, but also she has proper english which z so useful coz if u remember last year in miss universe miss egypt was a disaster with her stupid english if she even had any and not to mention her dumb attitude,so i think ehsan will make us apeear as a decent country this year, best wishes honey xxxxx
Woow So pretty lady .
Well, can’t deny her name is the only thing in her which sounds Egyptian but still, she could be our best embassador. At least, as many said, she can speak proper English, she’s open minded…everything a Miss [any country] needs!
lol joking
Anyways, Best of luck Ehsan, especially next few days, in the Miss Universe 2007.
Hey, I think I have an anwer concerning the question Why do they always choose Miss Egypt a non-real-Egyptian (usually American or European/even Mr. Egypt, although nobody hears about him), I think because in Egypt, there’s sooooo many few girls with open minded and with proper…style to join this competition, nobody can deny it! Except if you suggest a tied head Ms. Egypt (in general), I think she doesn’t really look Egyptian, but that shows that Egyptian girls aren’t all the same…
Michel
Good luck Ehsan, try to change your name
[No offence]
For crying out loud er7amona men elkalam elfadi dah, beauty contest eih wa frakh eih ya naas fih 7agat aham en elkalam elfady dah
Some hours earlier there was a meeting with Miss Lebanon in the “Centro Libanés” of Mexico City… I actually had a bad attitude at these Miss Universe things… but then I met Miss Lebanon and Miss Egypt as well… Thought they were going to be a pain in the ass, but I thought wrong… they’re sooo nice people. I had the chance to talk a bit to Miss Egypt. She told me how much she liked Mexico and some other stuff. She definitely has a brain (as well as Miss Lebanon) which I thought none of those misses would have, and she did not sound greedy nor like a mommie’s girl or anything. Now I can asure that we use to prejudge a lot only by the look of the people, stereotypes, etc… and we gotta learn to know the people before we can say anything about them. I’m loving how beauty can be combined with intelect… haha.. ¡Arriba Ehsan!
I’ts funny so many ppl have an opinion of someone they don’t know. Heshan’s a friend of mine, and whoever thinks she does”nt speak Arabic is completely wrong. She’s lived in Cairo her entire life and speaks fluently. She was a great choice and I wish her the best of luck in the future. She’s not shallow and she has a big heart, the only reason she did it is cause she taught it woud be fun.
I’m sure it was, congrats Heshan
Some people on here are so stupid, she has lived in egypt her whole life… not europe as was mentioned earlier. she speaks arabic just fine, so the person who wrote the small paragraph uder the picture needs to get their facts right…oh and their english as well… coz if you didn’t notice… Ehsan is a “she” not a “he”…
Well done mate! you deserve it.
هذا ليس من تقاليد ومبادئ الإسلام..للأسف..شئ يخجل الجميع
please give me beautiful girls picture of egypt.
For your information, Youssef, all my life (and my sisters’ and friends’,) whenever we have mentioned we are Egyptian, guys have gone goo-goo-ga-ga over the mere mention of it. Followed by, “Oh wow, Egyptian women are so beautiful, like Nefertiti. They have beautiful eyes,” etc,.
I’m wondering where you got your ideas from. Just want to learn.
Thanks.
Kangartuletion miss EGYPT 2007 i am Indian sanding from Saudi arabiya
The Egyptian definition of “beautiful” is a white person? The more I learn about Egyptians and their culture, as well as the culture of North Africans/Arabs in general, the less liking and concern I have for them. I had actually kind of liked their culture etc. until I found out more about it.
Seeing this woman makes me sad. As a person who lives in the US and has been a victim of racism, seeing most white people makes me feel slightly disgusted. I try to get over this feeling, because there are some nice and decent whites. Many of the Egyptian guys I have met and read about will marry the whitest woman they can find and many of them continue to write how “beautiful” this woman is.
She just looks like a regular caucasian person. I have come to realize that to many people “beautiful” means pale skin, light-colored eyes and straight, light-colored hair. Period. Where does that leave the rest of the women? Especially women in societies where they have to attract a mate in order to prosper in life, because job prospects are limited for them.
Well, for the men, I guess they are lucky these days. Now that the Eastern European countries are sending so many women abroad , all of them can finally have a ‘beautiful’ woman. The women are not lucky, though, because they only have a limited range of partners to pick from.
I have found in my own culture, in my travels all over the world including Asia and the Middle-east and Latin America how much the people hate themselves–especially the way their women look–yet worship white women. It makes me feel pretty sad, because I am not white. I had to work hard to get a very good job because I suppose if I had planned to marry someone, I would have had a hard time finding a guy with a good job, home etc. to marry me.
At any rate, women of the world, I apologize on behalf of these guys. Please make sure you get an engineering degree, buy your own home and have your own business. We cannot all be white, and if you can’t find a partner who values you, then you should at least have the option of being able to support yourself, your family and children.
Fugee123, your comment really impressed me, although I’m a (dark) Egyptian, because I also made fun of how Eyptians fall immediately for colored eyed people and white skin, but not all of them I guess, actually now few of them still think so. Directors nomore choose white people for the leading roles and leave the blacks for stuntmen. Nah, I believe Egypt changed a lot, but concerning that Miss Egypt? So what if they chose a white woman? I mean, between us, she’s still prettier than all the others, if you watch the video of the finals you would see the runner-up, I swear, she was almost dying…I guess she already knew the results.
Forgive me for what I’m going to say but you had a bit of drama in your comment, because I live in Australia now, and lived in Lebanon which is a bit high on racism, I never got a word for my color, my color is obviously Egyptian. Actually, most people like it (Thank God!), and I never saw anyone really offending black people, except when it comes to some white idiots, which the world can never be free of. I guess that’s same with black people. Because THERE’S ALWAYS EXCEPTIONS!
I’m not saying that you woke up from a 300 years coma, but I think the black racism years are over now, and there’s nomore an Ethinity case on passports to say black or caucausian.
I like Ehsan, the new Miss Egypt, althought she’s not really meant to be miss EGYPT because she’s theorically not Egyptian except her name is, but I guess if she won, so be it, she’s still pretty. As there’s white pretty women, there’s also black pretty women
Fugee123, I think your observations about beauty standards in the Mideast/N. Africa are 100% right on. Although their obvious preference for European coloring is not racist in their eyes, it is in ours (America’s). As an undergrad in International Studies, I enteracted with dozens of students from the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia. I was sometimes shocked by the comments that flowed so freely from their mouths, not just in regards to race but also women’s rights, homosexuality, politics, etc. I realized of course that it was their cultural conditioning, that I no doubt did and said things they found shocking as well.
Anyway, these encounters really opened my eyes to the progress we have made here in the U.S., and the high standards we have set for ourselves. In fact, I read recently that “white America has undergone a profound, if unremarked, change over the past forty years.” As a “white” person myself, I can truthfully say this is something that eats away at us sometimes. Whites often feel that all they get is criticism for why things aren’t better [or perfect?] and never any acknowledgement of the great improvements they’ve made in their attitudes and behavior in such a small period of time. Just try to find even one twenty-something white person who hasn’t cringed at their grandparents’ obsolete terminology and/or views on race . . . Believe me, things have changed. And, most of our grandparents have changed too, believe it or not!
As far as beauty goes, it seems to be an unfortunate reality that virtually all cultures value fairer skin above darker, even those whose contact with Europeans has been minimal. In fact, this preference is a well-documented phenomenon in the Middle East, India, East Asia, and East Africa, and it predates European contact by centuries, sometimes millenia. To cite but one example, the Bible alludes to this in Songs of Songs when the woman, who was an outdoors laborer, says: “Women of jerusalem, don’t look down on me because I am dark.”
I know it’s easy to scapegoat whitey, but in reality, racism is an issue that every nation has to face up to on its own. Nobody else can do it for you. The fact that whites have a disproportionate share of power in this world certainly helps sustain the global reign of fair-skinned beauty. But given the historical evidence we have of a fair-complected beauty standard across cultures, there’s no reason to believe it wouldn’t exist regardless of how powerful European whites are. Peoples like the Arabs, Latin Americans, Chinese, Indians, Ethiopians, and countless others ALL have deep-seated color issues that cannot be heaped upon Euro-whites. After all, if other peoples are merely emulating our standards, then logically, they should have been including minorities and darker-complected beauties in their media by now. . . we’ve been doing it for some time.
Just as one last point, beauty contests and the like are by nature unfair. Aside from being subjective, they are also perfectionistic about a 1000 other details like age, height, weight, and facial symmetry, none of which have anything to do with race, and there are plenty of complaints that this is also discriminatory.
India has won Miss World and Miss Universe several times; I don’t think the world thinks Indians women are more beautiful than Egyptians. However, Miss Egypt usually does not do our country justice. I am not talking about this year or anyone in particular. But there has been years when you can’t help but wonder what they were thinking in electing the contests or even crowing the winner. I speculate that there is a political aspect to this competition, and money is definitely a driving force to who wins. If the competition took the really beauties of Egypt believe me we will not only get into the top 10, we’ll be crowned the finalist.
Its really funny, but sad at the same time, how a claimed Egyptian cannot speak the native language of Egypt, Arabic? This rediculous event is bringing more of a disgrace than a blessing to Egyptians. Why is showing skin a big deal than looking into how and what they did for what used to be Egypt oneday?? It is truely a prostitution of art and the worse to come if we keep glorifying these empty figures!!
