Kurds silenced in the Middle East

Ever wondered why you hardly ever hear the voices of Kurds across our region, especially within the sphere of the media? Well, here is a recent (but not uncommon) case from Syria that could lead you to the answer:

Kurdish news websites Efrin.ner, Gemyakurda.de and Qamishlo.net have been filtered by the Syrian authorities since 25 April 2007. Efrin had already been blocked by one of the country’s two Internet access providers, the Syrian postal service, but it is now also unavailable on the Syrian Computer Society (SCS) network. Many other sites which focus on the Kurdish minority in Syria, such as Amude.com, have already been banned.

Syrian Internet-users have set up a support page for one of the country’s three jailed Cyber-dissidents, IbrahimZoro.com (in Arabic).

I have been wanting to give Kurds a voice through Mideast Youth for a long time now with a difficult time trying to find Kurds within the blogosphere (for obvious reasons), I truly wish some Kurds abroad will be passionate enough in helping their fellow Kurds within the Middle East in gaining a louder voice.
