Hummus is an international food product – a dip made of ground chickpeas, sesame tahini, lemon juice, and garlic – which crosses the boundaries of the Middle East. There’s a debate about it’s origins. What few people know is that hummus was also mentioned in the Bible up to 3000 years ago in the Book of Ruth מגילת רות.(Ruth was married to a judge of Israel, Boaz where they lived in Beit-Lechem meaning from Hebrew the “House of Bread.” Their child was Oved, grandfather of King David, first of the royal family of Israel—the House of David.)

Abu Ghosh is located approximately 10 kilometers west of Jerusalem, just north of the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem highway. The Israeli Arab town of Abu Gosh in the Jerusalem Mountains is famous for it’s its Israeli Arab Muslim IDF members of the IDF Home Front Command rescue team and for its delicious hummus !

  1. This website for Humus addicts is pretty funny. This is the English version.

….or if your girlfriend or wife or mother makes the best ever Hummus in the World

Hey, it’s not only women who can master humus. My Lebanese brother-in-law is incredibly hard to out-humus. No one can compete with his amazing skills at doing this (and another dish which we call 6a3miya.)

  2. Hi,

I see you have used my photo (Falafel Hakosem) without permission. However I forgive you but please add credits as following: photo by Mary B. Bloom http://www.telaviv4fun.com
