Did you know in Iran … – Revolution
Before I start writing about some facts of Iran’s Revolution, I must say, that I’m 19 years old now, and I wasn’t even born at the time of the revolution, but what I write here is what I see as child of revolution generation.
1 ) Many people still believe Shah (the King) was better, and people were living more happily at that time. (so why they started the revolution in the first place?)
2 ) Many actors were forbidden to act or perform for good.
3 ) Many people, went to U.S. and still believe in Shah, and firmly believe some day he’ll be back. (a lot of them have their own shows on satellite TVs)
4 ) Some people are so desperate that they are ready to believe anything that they hear on satellite TVs, and wish to do anything as they say so, and firmly believe that one day U.S.A will come over to help us!
5 ) There were a lot of people involved in the revolution but some were not necessarily on “Imam Khomeini’s” side. It was a huge wave that directed everyone to Imam Khomeini’s side.
6 ) It’s our government’s policy to fed people stories about harsh conditions of prisoners and … before the revolution.
7 ) An annual walking is held on the day of revolution success, to show “the world” people still believe in the Revolution and it’s afterwards consequences. But the truth is, many of them are forced to join the walking because of different reasons (i.e. not to lose their job).
8 ) Some type of security organization was established after the revolution called “Basij” which has somehow unlimited and unofficial powers (By unofficial I mean it’s not mentioned in the law). Everyone literally everyone can join “Basij”, and if you’re an active member you’ll be given the authority to search cars, people, … and even high rank members are given a stun-gun, pepper spray, or even a gun.
9 ) Our car industry started its work at the same time as Koreans started. And now Koreans are selling their cars in the whole world, and we just can export them to some near countries -which don’t have their own auto-industry – for a really cheap price. With all these mentioned conditions “Iran Khodro” -our main car manufacturing company- is said to be the greatest auto factory in the middle east! WHY? because they manufacture thousands of cars monthly and sell it for an expensive price (even 8x more than the real price), and people “Have” to buy them, theres no other option.
It’s also good to know that car import is only possible if you pay a 80% tax (it used to be 300% then it reduced to 120% and then to 80%). But anyhow there are people who can afford to buy even 500,000$ cars here (after paying the taxes: 900,000$)
10 ) Many historical sites were destroyed and robbed because of not paying enough attention, and not securing them.
11 )Less than 30 years ago, Dubai was known as just a desert to Iranians, and in a short time they managed to turn it into a touristic and attracting city, considering there are no historical places, no Natural wonders (except of the desert), … and just shopping malls, Disco Bars, Night Clubs, and stuff like that. (No offense to U.A.E people)
12 ) Many war victims and fighters are left by their own and nothing extra is dedicated as an advantage to them, to make life easier. They fought for 8 years and now they have to continue this war to the end of their lives.
13 ) There’ll be no other revolution in near future, because we’ve turned into obedient people. may God help us himself.
what I wrote above is not necessarily consequences of the Revolution, but it’s what happened afterwards.

This is a very informative post Pouyan, good job! But do you think it’s good or bad that there will be no revolution in the future? Personally, do you want one?
As an iranian I don’t like the government like this and I don’t want a revolution as well so as you said may God help us himself
)
Thanx Esra’a,
I totally agree with Leila. I want no revolution, the last one was no good. many people were tortured, many people were killed, many people had to run away, many people had to leav university, many people lost everything, many historical sites were robbed, and other things happed that you wouldn’t even imagine.
I neither want a revolution nor this government to stay alive! there must be another way, a third choice! I’m not sure, as know I’m not really into politics, but I can say for sure that there’s another way.
I think a lot of Iranians today are grateful for having an Islamic government, but I guess the government they got just wasn’t a good one.
Even then – my mother’s religious Iranian muslim, and she still says she prefers Iran before the Revolution. She says when she was a kid her family was RAISED to love the Shah and his family. They couldn’t really accept the revolution.
And she even says, that old Iran doesn’t exist anymore, it changed into something completely different after the Revolution.
And it’s sad.
They have to get that old Iran back.
You know Sawsan,
Its a downwards road that we are moving in. It started a long time ago, it’s not just about the revolution that we lost a lot of things, there was a time when Iran was the most greatest power of all, our country was extended from europe to china, but what happened? Have we ever asked our self why west advanced and Iran left behind? we can never have our Old Iran back, but at least we can stop it from getting worse, I’m gonna tell you more about Iran sooner or later.
you said:
this is what happening currently but some are raised to love this system and this government, you think how Ahmadi Nejad was elected? cheating and stupid people!
This is why I have an issue with all most all the Iranians I meet. They don’t want freedom for everyone. They just want freedom for themselves. Bring back the dictator whom they adored over the dictator whom they don’t. They just want another tyrant to oppress the ones who they hate or whom they consider as pests, generally the poor, uneducated etc.
These people need a bullet to the head as much as the loons who rule Iran now.
Well said Jina,
I couldn’t agree more.
So, Jina feels ”all Iranians’ whom she meets need ‘bullet to the head’. I suppose one could say Jina made an interesting point early on in her message which she lost it, when started talking about putting bullets in heads of ‘all the Iranians’ she meets. As the two young Iranian people already made comments, they do not want another ‘revolution’ which leads me to assume, ‘bullet to the head’ idea may not be what they are after.
Firstly, Jina is a man, not a “she.”
Secondly, why are you taking his comment so literally? It’s quite obvious that this is not what he actually means. It’s meant to be taken figuratively.
Did you just quote something that I never said?
I made a VERY short comment with VERY short sentences, how do you not get what I said? I’ll excuse your comment if you are not fluent in English, but if you are, I’ll go put a bullet in my head for responding to this.
Pouyan, since when was the last revolution of Iran a role model for future revolutions? why would you think that every revolution should end up this badly? Did we not have a peaceful revolution in 1906?!
I am not saying it’s going to be easy and peaceful, but it is too naive and ignorant to not want change, when everyone is suffering. You would rather have everyone suffer and live under fear now rather than change it for better?
Do you not believe that there can be anything better than Islamic Republic?
Change won’t be too easy, but God doesn’t bring change about. People do. It’s the people who must be responsible for their lives. Not God or his representitives.
If Iranians should learn one thing from their mistakes in the last revolution, it’s just that.
