Introducing the New Youth 4 project
June 18th, 2007We would like to officially introduce our new campaign where we join forces with our Chinese friends to fight for the freedom of four Chinese cyber dissidents:
On May 28, 2003, Jin Haike, Xu Wei, Yang Zili, and Zhang Honghai, were sentenced to between eight and ten years for the crime of “subverting state power.” Their charges stemmed from a small, informal discussion group they’d formed and dubbed the “New Youth Study Group” in order to debate ways in which China could further progress and prosper.
The New Youth 4 Coalition seeks to end their unjust imprisonment and return freedom to these four individuals who represent the best of Chinese progressivism and forward thinking.
We hope that through the power of dialogue and communication, the Chinese authorities will correct this grave injustice.
You can check it out here and familiarize yourself with the case. This is the first campaign that we know of where young Arab and Chinese activists work hand in hand to produce such a site.
According to the site’s main organizers, the idea was inspired by our Free Kareem campaign. When they contacted us asking for help; we immediately did it and are very proud to have done so, it’s obviously a very worthy cause.

Much thanks to Jina’s web skills for making yet another project possible at Mideast Youth. For anyone who wants to help; please do so by spreading the word at least!
