Our new website: No Honor!
What do you all think about honor killings? We here find it unjust, and decided to do a new website condemning it:
www.nohonor.org
Honor killing is one of the most threatening things in our societies… and we need to actively enforce laws that strictly forbids this shameful action. For those of you who don’t know what honor killing is, Wikipedia has an extensive answer.
As you can see the site is still very new, let us know if anyone is interested in helping us by leading it. We run about 16 different campaigns and would like some help with management, we have very few editors actually helping us out with these much needed campaigns. We refuse to be slow even if we don’t have enough helping hands… if we see something we dislike we take immediate action and we do our best regardless of whether or not we have the time.
So, if anyone wants to help, we would be more than happy to accept your contributions! Anyone and everyone passionate about this topic can (and are strongly encourage to) help us. If not, the website will always be up and running with as many updates as we can cover in our busy schedule.

I pledge myself to such an important cause absolutely, please just tell me , how I could help, and I’m there!
We in Jordan have atleast 2 or 3 cases of “honor killing” every month.
I believe this issue has to do with the way some men in our societ think they own women, they think their sister, wife, mother are just property that they own and can sell or get rid off at any convenience.
And it all goes down to education, Ministries of Education in the Arab world, please , I beg you , stop separating the boys from the girls in schools, it’s damaging and hurting us!
If schools were mixed, boys would have female friends that they love just like their other male friends, so when they grow up they would accept that women are equal to men, and society would be healthier and more productive!
Agreed! I just sent you an email regarding your position on the site.
I just browsed through the site.. Great job
I actually feel nauseous now because this reminds me of an incident
Honor killing is not mentioned much here in Saudi Arabia, I don’t remember hearing any stories about such brutal acts, although I am sure it takes place among some.
Going back to my story, I was freshly employed in one of our main hospitals here in Saudi Arabia some years ago. My department asked for an urgent meeting. I thought it was to discuss weekly issues as usual, instead, there was a slide show of a dead young female, a forensic specialist thought she was in her early 20′s, her face was disfigured due to acid that melt her skin and tissue..
They believed that this was an honor killing! and we were asked to study her pictures, her dental records, bones even to see if anyone could recognise her.. (no one claimed her body.. no one announced her missing!)
It saddens me so much watching these young girls killed
Whoever commits these crimes should be punished and locked up
Esra’a.. I would love to pitch in..
Esra’a,
I salute you for your wonderful activism. I always wonder how do you manage between studies, blogging and activism. Any time machine that we’re not aware of ?
Just kidding. Keep up the good work.
There is an exceptionally well-researched book out about “honour” killings called “Reclaiming Honor in Jordan.” It provides some of the first scientifically-gathered data on this subject. You can find it here:

It’s wonderful that your website is bringing attention to honor killing and violence against women. Please keep up the good work!
