Detained American-Iranians and a fake TV show?

Author: Fariborz (Iran) - July 18, 2007

Haleh Esfandiari and Kian Tajbakhsh detained in Iran on national security charges appeared for the first time on state television after almost 2 - 2 and half months, with one saying in a brief video clip that his foundation may have targeted “the world of Islam”. They have been in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison. They have seen no one from outside the prison during this time not even their family and lawyer. Any statements They might made without having had access to their lawyers have no legitimacy or standing.

Most people don’t believe this TV show has something to say only lies! We are familiar with this interrogation pattern activities in Iran that it works in following steps:
1. jailing innocent people
2. confining them
3.producing a framed or cobbled statement and confession

Well, everybody knows we don’t have fair judicial process. sometimes people spent some years in prison without bail heraing?! Yeah, that’s true!

We condemn this totally false accusations and allegations against these people and we again ask the Iranian government to end this ordeal and let all detained dual-citizens return safely home.

We don’t believe in this kind of TV shows and we condemn it! we ask you to stop this non-sense and let them be free and come back home.

I definitely second your thoughts! Who does the Iranian government ever listen to? Not its own citizens, not foreign governments, not human rights activists worldwide, so who?

I hope the best for the people of Iran I really do. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks Esra’a, I wish all the best for all humankind.

  • Unfortunately, I couldn’t complete steps of IRI interrogation pattern because it is complex and very unpredictable. After “producing a framed or cobbled statement and confession” anything can happen. sometimes in next step it can be prison, execution or even freedom! which we always wish for freedom and most likely people after freedom the declined their confessions and claimed it was under torture and pressure.

Note to the Iranian government’s PR department… People in prison don’t make TV programmes!. When terrorists, criminals, etc. in the UK get put in prison, they don’t make confessional TV programmes. Programmes like this look just like Alan Johnstone’s videos from Palestine.

What does the Iranian public think of these videos?

  • Grumpy:
I’m afraid if there is not a solid view about these events within this nation.

ah, yeah! few months ago, a movie of the best comedian Iran has ever had, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was published on youtube, in which he claimed that ‘a 16 year high-school girl has produced nuclear energy in her home with the help of her brother’. it was nonsense, but believe it or not, Ive seen some people who accept the claim and say: ‘its that easy that even a 16 year old girl can do it, ah, we should be very proud of ourselves’!

Thanks, Mohammad. The reason I ask is that I suspect the IRI’s main reason is to influence their own citizens.

Fariborz (and many others, I’m sure) “don’t believe in this kind of TV show” and condemn them, but I’d wager that a lot of the general public does believe.

Ya, kinda like how you believe everything your little TV box says.

    Sheep are cute and stupid.

  • To Max:

    Good one, thanks.

  • To Grumpy:

Even there are lots of conflicts between power groups in The Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) about to this TV shows because after 30 years some of figured out that not only it’s useless but also it brings more questions about TV shows.

No doubt, there are some percent of people who still believe regime stories and TV shows specially people who just use IRI’s TV as their media to the world and brainwashed people.

This TV shows are very ridiculous just you gotta watch it. I think so everyone with commonsense scholarship could find pressure on prisoner, unreal questions and answers. because of pressure, sometimes they forget what they should reply to questions then questioner change the question in the form of answer! then wait for a yes!! I am telling you, you gotta watch it.

  • To Jina:

In fact, there are some percent of people (everywhere in the world) who believes whatever they saw on TV.

In IRI, I am sure most people in villages which their connection to the world is just TV box, IRI programs and of course their mosques! they do believe Tv programs.
