Shocking Article of the Day: Saudi Niqabi Make Up Artist

August 2nd, 2007Drima (Sudan)

Shua’a Dihailan, a Saudi make up artist, with her models during a European show!! I swear to you I am not making this up. I’m telling you people, this has got to be the weirdest post I’ve ever written because I simply have no words to express my conflicting emotions. Hilarious? Out of this world? WTH? Dodgy? Amazing? Innovative? Damn it, I give up. You decide. I’m speechless! Click here for more (sorry, Arabic article). I’m still speechless!

  1. Ridiculous?
What’s the point in being photographed wearing a veil?

  2. I don’t get this post either.

  3. Is it shocking because she is wearing a niqab (face cover)?
or is it because she’s a Saudi make up artist?
or is it because she is taking a photograph with a face cover?
or is it because she is taking a photograph with models?
or is it because she has gone international (that show being based in Rome)?
or is it because she is a niqab wearing make up artist?

Or is it all the above?
I don’t get what you meant by this article.. to be honest.

  4. Why is it shocking?? it would be shocking if the models were wearing niqab right but they’re not.
she is an artist and a makeup artist. which is a profession like any other. Dont all the women in the world put on makeup and have their makeup done by somebody professional sometimes. so wy is this so unsual?

  5. Erm, it looks like I might have touched a raw nerve with this post…

Well, I believe this is the first time a Niqabi Saudi woman does make up for scantly dressed models in a European show.

It’s just really extremely strange to me how a Niqabi would want to get involved in the Western fashion industry which is known to be very unIslamic. The Niqab’s purpose/symbolization and the Western fashion industry are just such opposite worlds you know. That’s why it’s shocking to me.

It’s kinda like a vegetarian guy working in a butcher shop.
