A Peace Process Metaphor

September 18th, 2007D.B. Shobrawy (Egypt)

I was taking out the garbage today when I discovered this sadly accurate metaphor for the upcoming Mid East “peace” conference.

A Palestinian flag and kuffayah in the garbage.

peace process

Maybe you can figure out the significance of the laundry detergent.

  1. How sad and realistic. At first glance I thought that bucket was gas, which made more sense to me. The laundry detergent box is empty, so there goes our solution in the upcoming conference. All talk and no action. Zzzzz.

  2. Ha. Yeah. But really sad. If only there was an Israeli flag in their too.

Maybe the laundry detergent was supposed to wash away all our sorrows, but it fails so…

  3. It is quite a powerful metaphor. Maybe the empty laundry detergent means we’ve run out of means to ‘clean-up’ (reconcile) the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Though I dont like to be that pessimistic, so maybe the owner has gone out to buy a bigger and more efficient laundry detergent!

  4. so maybe the owner has gone out to buy a bigger and more efficient laundry detergent!

    Unfortunately doubtful. :(

  5. Hey! what’s with all the plastic in the trash there, buddy? ever heard of recycling? Seems like too much is going into the ground that shouldn’t…

  6. Lol eric I’m sorry but the city of Chicago doesnt really have a recycling program and more importantly…thats not my garbage can.
