Our Sexual Terrorism site is banned in the UAE
November 14th, 2007UAE-based contributors/readers of our Sexual Terrorism campaign can no longer access the website. I thought it had to do with the fact that it has “sex” in the name, however many other sites with “sex” in the URL work so it must have something to do with the content. We focus much on human trafficking in the Gulf, we also reported on the Dubai-based Armenian prostitutes and the Nigerian ones who are grossly mistreated and underpaid. Linking to this video at every opportunity probably touched a nerve too.
Can any other UAE readers confirm this?
It’s crucial for people in the UAE to read and contribute to this website. All we do is spread awareness on sex trafficking in the region where many of the prostitutes are bought and traded against their will. Is that a crime?
Someone please tell me this isn’t true.
Update: It’s confirmed. We are unsure of the purpose of this ban.
The site is currently #1 in Google search results for “Dubai trafficking.”
Mideast Youth and Sexual Terrorism are in the first page for the Google results of “UAE sex trafficking.”
ST is the 4th result for “UAE forced prostitution.”
And both MEY and ST are on the top of the list for “UAE sexual terrorism.”

Yup, it’s banned!
This sucks.
How many ISPs operate within the UAE? Maybe just one of them banned it. Do you think it’s official?
Etisalat is playing monopoly here, and it’s state-owned. No one else has legal control. We have at least 2,000 sites banned.
Bastards!
pot, kettle, black
Crap. What about proxy servers?

You worried that it might be due to “sex” in the name, but could it be the “terrorism” in the name?
My2cents:
It’s not because of terrorism in the name. I’ve been talking to several people from the UAE today, they all confirm it. Even “Terrorism.com” works.
Everyone thinks it’s because of the content.
They’re banned too. But you can find your way through softwares like Tor.
huh?
What does that even mean? It sounds like spam advertising kitchen utensils.
Retard is implying that you are being a hypocrite because you do the same thing.
That doesn’t make sense.
How am I being a hypocrite by doing the same thing? Do I delete posts here that have to do sex trafficking?
Peacewhatever, take your pots and kettles home and come back when you have something worthwhile and relevant to say. Thanks.
It’s blocked here in Saudi too. And yes, it probably has to do with the “Sexual” in the name. But as you said, using a software like Tor or Jap can help bypass it. Using proxy sites isn’t recommended cause they end up blocking those too.
So how do you quench your thirst for porn, Dua’a?
There’s always TV.

well it used to be pretty bad at first.. I remember a guy from Essex in UK tht he couldnt find news from there! and this page would’v e not been open to us either!
Interesting documentary,I just had the chance to see it actually!
I’m not going to argue that it provided concrete evidence there is a blind eye turned on this “night industry”, but what I want to say is that there is also good in Dubai, the city is not all bad!
The Dubai Cares campaign, despite that I heard many people saying that it’s purpose is just fame for Dubai and not philanthropy per-se,I say well,if it produces good for the world then so be it!, I really don’t care about what people intentions’ are from doing something as much as I care for how that “something” is gonna turn out!
People say the same thing about celebrities,U2’s Bono, Angelina Jolie, and lately Bryan Adams with his Bryan Adams Foundation, I say let these people spend their money good, it’s better than if they spend it bad, believe me!
Blue!
I’m glad you say there’s some good in the city. It is true, however, that the negatives almost always outshadow the positives, especially when there’s very little effort put to eliminate the bad.
Interesting you mention Dubai Cares. In spite of doing a great job abroad, I would have really liked to see the foundation do something for the poverty-stricken UAE nationals, and they are many. It is a good initiative, but I think the motto serves as a good reminder here: charity begins at home.
I tried and it worked, i live in dubai.

Manna,
The blocking lasted for several months but was eventually lifted.
