Umm, I Have A Question…

Author: D.B. Shobrawy (Egypt) - November 29, 2007

What the hell is this!?

bush

Seriously?! George W. Bush is Mr. Palestine? I didnt know things had gotten so bad, I mean I knew that a productive peace plan was nearly impossible but I didnt know George W. Bush of all people on this earth was the only chance for peace. Imagine that, and I thought George Bush was the antithesis of peace. I wouldnt have a problem with this cover if it wasnt for the line, “The Only Man Who Could Make It Happen”. (ok and maybe I’m sincerely disturbed by the name “Mr.Palestine”) I’ve lost so much respect for The Economist, I used to be a big fan, I even have a link to them on my site.

This isnt an issue of whether or not you like Bush, this is simply the essence of ignorance mostly because it places undue faith on the Annapolis Peace Conference or just “Annapolis” as the Arab newspapers call it, peace doesn’t really belong in the title. There is no peace without discussing the key issues.

-Right of return for Palestinian refugees.
-Jerusalem.
and
-The settlements.

As you probably already know, these issues were left out of the talks. (Israel said they will not discuss them) and so the Arab leaders started to pull out, boycotting essentially and why shouldnt they? They’ve since been compelled to attend but we know nothing will come from the conference and when it fails the Arabs will be blamed, just wait for it. If it wasnt for the glossy texture of this magazine cover I’d wipe my ass with it.

  • I feel exactly the same way about this whole thing. Yesterday when I was reading an article about it, there was a picture of Bush, Olmert and Abbas. I couldnt help but shudder every time I looked at it. It makes me sick how manipulative Bush and his cronnies are. And I agree with you D.B. this ‘peace’ conference is unlikely to result in any such thing, and the Arabs will surely be the first to blame. Accepting anything less than what the Palestinians require to live as human beings is unacceptable, and that is essentially what is being offered, if none of the key issues are up for discussion.

I don’t see any other enity to blame but the arabs for the world-wide terrorism, riots and unrest connected with islam. The rest of the world keeps waiting for the “moderate arabs”, the “progressive muslims”, the “religion of peace” to make a stand. Obviously, it’s going to be a LONG wait. Therefore, the feeling is that peace, or whatever will pass for peace, must be brokered by SOMEONE, even forced on the area by SOMEONE or the rest of the world will continue to suffer the latest “spasm” of religious fervor the fanatics are subjecting the rest of us to. Many people in the world are getting pretty sick of it. It’s like having a pouty 2yr old in your midst. First, you try to talk to them (hence, the conference) then, if you don’t get the desired responce, you spank them. I feel that if things in the middle east don’t shape up soon, they’re in for a spanking like the world has never seen until now. You don’t have to believe me…..ask the Japaneese. And if you don’t like reading that…..modify the behavior. It’s truely the way many people feel in my area. Ask the people in Dearbornistan, Michigan.

Kinda funny considering most of these are not connected with Arabs in any way…

And if Arabs are 2 year olds, Americans are 3 year olds… not much of a difference is there? How about you stick to the OP?

Its OK, people rarely do. They see a topic or an opinion and it reminds them of something that’s been on their mind since breakfast and suddenly they are spewing this tornado of thoughts on a blog even though it vaguely relates to the topic. They are easy to spot because they are filled with generalization, anger and hate.

R E Konrad, I get it, you’re angry. You hate Arabs and Islam. Thats cool but look at the topic and the issue of the conference. This isnt a “you better stop acting up Arabs, or else” conference this is a conference to discuss the issues that have caused the conflict since 1948 and claim to find a resolution. The Arabs support a two state soloution, so does every country on planet earth with the exception of the U.S. and Israel (and micronesia, dominica and palau but i dont think you can spot them on a map or give a damn what they think). Settlements in Palestine are illegal and they qualify as ethnic cleansing by international law. These are very simple issues with very simple solutions. So why are you getting your panties in a bunch, really?

If these topics arent being discussed then what are these nations gonna do at the conference? Pose for pictures? Stare at each other from across the table? Why would Israelis even support the conference? Does Olmert really need a free trip to the U.S.? Are him and Abbas gonna get in a hot air ballon and feed each other cheese sandwiches? I dont get it.

No one opposes a conference for peace but it must be at the right time and under the proper circumstances and this isnt it, thats all. So relax you big ugly bigot you.

  • I’m sorry did I miss something?? How was my comment not a relevant one?

D.B, he’s “Dima” and not Drima, as in Sudanese Thinker. Here’s to hoping he doesn’t take the bigot remark seriously. ;)

More unnecessary ranting from morons who feel the need to act like women with mood swings.

  • Why the fuck is Bush not being impeached for all the fucked up shit he has done… how can anyone take him seriously… let alone seriously enough to actually achieve peace! I am sick to death of people looking at Bush as some stupid simpleton, when he is in fact a very very dangerous powerful man, in fact, the most powerful man in the world. And his only interest is to leave office looking as if he has achieved something. I find it very worrying that all of a sudden the death tolls in Iraq are decreasing significantly. That is wonderful and all, but in light of the lies we have been fed about this war alone, I think we have to be more warey. I would just like to know where all the ‘terrorists’ and ‘insurgents’ have gone.

I appologise in advance for going off topic slightly, and for my bad language.. but that sick twisted piece of work really gets under my skin.

Because sleeping with an intern is more of a crime/ethical dilemma than going to war on false premise, getting thousands of soldiers and hundreds of thousands of civilians killed, destabilizing a region and creating a breeding ground for extremists.

I guess he should have let an intern suck on his dinky then we wouldn’t have to put up with him… maybe… hmm ok bie…. and i like peanuts.

after reading this and going back over everyone’s comments I would say that all of you are speaking hateful words or words that defame one or another. Even if he has lied to us, and taken us into a war(one that more than a small group of people supported, in the beginning) I do not think you should assume the worst, I think you should hope for the best, and hope that maybe in some off chance they will succeed or at least come to some agreement. If nothing is done this shit is gonna start affecting all of us, if it already hasn’t.
