Help renovate 2 Iraqi orphanages in Duhok, Iraq!
December 1st, 2007Ausama Idrees, a medical student in Iraq, needs help raising some funds to renovate 2 existing orphanages in Duhok, a city in northern Iraq where he currently lives.
Idrees sent us an excellent proposal, part of which is:
The project is based on two ideas:
The primary idea behind the project is to help to improve the orphans’ quality of life. The project aims to provide two orphan houses with heaters and carpets because the houses are lacking this important part at the moment.
The project is also trying to provide the houses with some educational materials like books, stories or toys, with re-establishing an existing computer network and hopefully provide it with internet supplies.
In the same time, I will be addressing another issue which is youth empowerment and gender equality, by giving the youth in my close community the chance to work and to be creative and helpful. Through this project and other similar activities we hope to be giving equal chances to both males and females to work together and accomplish things as a team.
Ausama and his young team are trying to reach their $2750 target, so far they only managed to raise $600 which is hardly enough to accomplish most of their essential goals.
We seriously encourage everyone here to get involved in this worthy project. If you have your doubts and wish to contact Ausama directly, please don’t hesitate to e-mail him requesting further details.

There might be some Iranians who would be eager to help them with toys, clothes, carpet or else. do they accept? and how such things might be delivered to them?

I have a list of about 1000 active Iranian Emails. if you provide me with full details I can send it to them, and they usually forward it to their friends, and that might turn into a butterfly effect, Godwilling.
SO I did a little digging and to send some books to Dohuk would be like a $150 with FedEx. We should really get this going and try to send money. its just not feasible or reasonable to send materials unless you have an in.
Hi Omid, yes several readers noted that. I think it’s going to be much cheaper if it’s sent from neighboring countries like Iran, but supporters in the U.S are encouraged to do what they can, even spreading the word about this helps. If it reaches the right person/organization we have a good chance of getting all the required funds covered sooner than expected.
