Afghanistan - In the eyes of locals
Afghan photojournalist, blogger, and friend Nasim Fekrat is traveling around Afghanistan as I write this taking great pictures which he would one day like to share with all of you. Nasim has been trying very hard for years now to establish some kind of network that is professional and interactive, something that encourages locals to get involved and which educates foreign readers on Afghan issues, anything from culture to human rights.
One of Nasim’s latest photos:

Many Afghan children are the family breadwinners, Some of these children have become casualties of civil war.
You might already be aware from Omid’s post that we are trying to hook Nasim up with a really cool digital network to help him and his ilk reach a much wider audience on a more professional, journalistic scale. Rarely do we hear about Afghanistan from actual Afghans, this is a great opportunity to empower their voices and help them make the rest of us aware of what’s going on in the country.
One of the best things about Nasim is that this guy just never gives up. He writes in both English and Farsi covering the most controversial topics including the biggest cultural taboos, maintains a great Flickr page, survived several hacks to his site, does great podcasts in multiple languages, and I previously wrote about more of his efforts here. Basically, Nasim proved himself very deserving of any kind of help and recognition that he can get. We want you, dear readers, to get involved in supporting him too, especially since he risks his life on a daily basis doing and writing what he feels very passionate about.
We are trying very hard to help Nasim establish the kind of network he has in mind, and we estimated the cost of achieving this at $1,500.
Unfortunately we have only managed to raise about $317 so far.
If you have anything to spare, even a $5 or a $10, please contribute to what has the potential of being a really great and useful project that empowers independent journalism in Afghanistan:
Please spread the word and do what you can to help out. Nasim is very enthusiastic about this project and really wants to get it on the road, so please help us meet our target!
Thanks in advance to anyone who contributes, and thanks so much to anyone who already did. We appreciate it a lot.
