Report: “Saudi women [to] get freedom to drive” by year’s end
January 22nd, 2008This seems too be an interesting report. Guess the petitions are making a difference
The ‘UK newspaper report’ says that:
Women in Saudi Arabia will be allowed to get behind the wheel as the government lifts its longstanding ban on female drivers, according to a UK newspaper report
A decree will be issued by the end of this year, the Daily Telegraph reported officials as saying. .
Saudi women get freedom to drive
Also today’s report that a woman was charged with DWW (Driving While a Woman):
Woman Arrested for Practicing Driving
I just wish that this source would turn out to be better than the one announcing the release of Fouad Al-Farhan, in the first week of Jan.
**Update**
The UK newspaper report is from the Daily Telegraph

They’ve been saying that once a year since 1983.
well I hope with the internet, free-er local press, less influence of the extremist’s n the world-wide bad PR Saudi is getting rite now , due to the mis-calculations of some men, this will be the last year
Congratulations ladies of Saudia
It will be a wonderful refreshing event to see you drive
I hope to come and visit your country as you are driving your cars and your kids safe in the back seat. I would love to sit in the car and watch how well you drive
All my best wishes , from the Persian side of Middle East
Not to sound harsh or anything but they do and they would drive like any other human beings..! they do drive outside the country [not like the big stupid controversy of the Saudi Hummer Driver]

Muneeb,
Maybe they drive the same way, but it is fun, at least for the fist few years of being allowed to dirve, after not being alllowed, that is a good feeling that I would like to share with the ladies
You could share it with me as well if you were a woman
They’ve been saying that once a year since 1983.
I was afraid of that.
lets not forget that even if we get it tomorrow there are all the technical issue’z.. like women police for example and driving license offices for women
I guess women could not attend a driving school, since they’d be alone in a car with an unrelated male?
They would obviously train women good enough to be trainers before doing that. There are plenty of female driving instructors in Bahrain.
There are alot of women who already know how to drive.. they can always volunteer
and then again, there are all the men..
personally I would gladly teach anyone who wants to learn
and I agree w/ mez.. there are alot of technical issue.. [maybe I shud rite on it?]
