March 3rd, 2008A U.S. airstrike this morning targeting a “known al-Qaeda terrorist” in Somalia destroys two houses, approximately the size of my bedroom, killing 3 women, 3 children and no terrorists. Yes in Somalia, which I believe has to its credit, one working escalator and 3 color T.V.’s
Picture this, you’re a poor Somalian man living in a house no more glamorous than a sand castle, you have no job besides what you can invent from your imagination and you live in one of the poorest countries on earth. Your country lacks infrastructure and the most basic human resources, you have nothing in terms of wealth and your countries number one export is dust. If your country fell into the ocean tomorrow it would barely make the front page of any newspaper including the Mogadishu Tribune. Then suddenly, one Monday morning you’re going through your usual daily routines (trying to find something on the ground that no one wants that might be edible if boiled) and suddenly BOOM! Your sand castle of a house has been blown off the face of the earth and with it, your wife, kids and members of your extended family. Was it an act of God, a natural disaster, civil war, leaking gas? Yea right, you don’t even have gas pipes. No, instead you and your sand castle have been targeted by the only remaining super power on earth, essentially by the leader of the free world. You’re not sure whether to be upset or honored.
You have nothing left, which is what you thought you had before this catastrophe occurred, you’ve been forced to exchange your few blessings in life for torment that will agonize you till your last breath. What do you do now? Go to Iraq and fight those who have taken everything from you….obviously. You have nothing left to live for except revenge and you’ll happily give your life just attempting to even the score even though you cant no matter what you do.
And thats how you recruit a terrorist.

So true. People look beyond all that you described in your post and just go “they hate us, it’s in their genes!” These “unfortunate errors” as the U.S likes to call them have severe consequences, the biggest of which is more terrorism.
The best way to fight fundamentalists is without guns. You kill more , you intensify the motivation of terrorists. You make innocent people feel that they have to back the terrorists to take revenge when they are killed for no reason. Fighting terrorism is not what is being done. This is calling for more, intentionally or unintentionally.
Unbelievable! And afterwards the US even admitted it had not actually hit the “Al-Queda agent” it was after. Hopefully the upcoming new administration will be implementing a no “stupid cowboys with big guns” policy in the US military. (That would put quite a few soldiers out of work, tho)
As tragic as this story is, it’s not suprising. Canadian forces in Afghanistan are well aware that their fatalities in combat have a whopping 10% contribution from the US in the form of friendly fire and ineptly aimed bombs.
And the US wonders why people around the world no longer see them as “the shining city on the hill”. More like “the crazy, dangerous cowboys sitting off our coast”.

Naturally, all of the views you’ve all shared so far provide genuine projections of how some collateral damage victims may feel. With that form of damage in mind and its associated victims, let’s consider a few key questions with regard to your feedback so far:
1. Who flew into the twin towers on September 11th 2001, and who funded their training?
2. Can you name a war that did not claim innocent victims?
3. How many non-combatants have the terrorists intentionally killed, i.e. in mosques on a Friday or in crowded markets?
4. Does “revenge” give anyone just cause to strap explosives on two mentally disabled women and send them into a crowd of non-combatants before remotely detonating their devices?
5. Would you not agree that regardless of who started the war, your opinion of the U.S., etc., the key to peace is ensuring both sides cease fire and leave it that way?
6. How do you propose we establish and maintain that peace? Keep in mind for example that it’s been tried in Lebanon only to have Hamas decide on a whim that it would not participate in a cease-fire regardless of the fact that all the other parties were willing to go forward.
So, let’s hear your solutions now and your active plans to implement them. I’ve spent years risking my life to establish and/or maintain peace all over the world, at the request of other nations, until my body had all but expired. What current, tangible role are you playing now? The world needs your help, and it seems like you’ve got some answers. It’s time to lead. Are you ready? After all, “you’re either part of the [active, substantive] solution, or you are part of the problem.”
We agree that it is not civil to kill innocent people and destroy property; however, we were trying to target Al-Queda. Since his location was close to civilization, the missiles affected them as well. This gives no reason for those people to become terrorists. Two wrongs don’t make a right! This situation has a back and forth pattern. Al-Quada is coming into the U.S. trying to destroy our land, so we are trying to destroy the root of the problem. As a result, innocent people are being involved also. In response to “and that’s how you recruit a terrorists”, that’s completely obscene. You are only making matters worse by suggesting that. People have a choice in everything, especially when it comes to killing people. The fact that they lost things gives them absolutely no reason to revolt and kill other people. Instead they should try to promote peace and not contribute to terrorism. “You have nothing left to live for except revenge and you’ll happily give your life just attempting to even the score.” That statement is completely uncivil. If everyone were that greedy we would have chaos. People need to be more mature about the matter and try to help it.
There is no “Al-Queda” : Just Israel and the US. Americans are paranoid lunatics killing innocent people and then pretending to be sorry. Wake up and smell the coffee : the true terrorists in the world today are AMERICANS. Go ask any Iraqi about the hundreds of thousands of American terrorists in their country.
Sure there is. There are many extremist elements in Arab and Muslim societies, just like they exist anywhere else. I don’t have to ask the Iraqis who the terrorists are, I see it every day in our region, I’ve lived through it as a child. Why just measure terrorism by looking at politics? You can look at all the abused minorities across the region. So much terrorism taking place… social, religious, and ethnic terrorism. To ignore all of this and point your finger solely at the USA is overly simplistic and in fact, borders on being racist itself. You have to acknowledge the other terrorists in the region and admit the fact that many of them live amongst us as well.
Sorry to burst your bubble, Esra’a, but “al-queda” is a myth invented by the intelligence services of the US, UK, and Israel. Its a fact, not some goofy conspiracy theory. No one ever heard of “Al-Queda” prior to 9/11/01, see if you can find a single reference to this group in hard print prior to that date. Bin Laden will never be caught because he’s dead, but this charade will continue till they “find” him i.e. keep invading countries in the region. Do some serious reading and you’ll find that you’ve been had. “Al-Queda” is nothing but a generic label slapped on anyone who won’t play along and be a slave.
TO suggest that blaming the Americans is “racist” is absurd given their involvement in the region goes back 8 decades proceeded by the Brits. Terrorism in the Middle East is an Anglo-American scam job aimed dividing the region and conquering it. They know it, and every client regime/dictator in the region knows. The war on terrorism is a fraud, it is a war on freedom.
