Assyrian blogger arrested in Syria
March 4th, 2008We have been alerted, although without official sources yet, that this blogging journalist (Osama Edward Mousa) was arrested in Syria on the 27th of February by Syrian authorities. No one knows where he was taken or where he’s exactly imprisoned within Damascus, and his friends and family fear that he is undergoing torture. Osama is an Assyrian Christian.
Apparently he was arrested directly due to content on his blog, where he criticized the Syrian government and its economic policies.
If anyone has any information concerning Osama and his arrest, please send us further alerts so that we can spread the word.
Update: He’s been released from prison, thankfully.

I am a syrian christian and Osama should of been fully aware of the implications he can cause upon himself whereby he tired to undermine the syrian government on there Legislation and policy of how our economy is held and operated. I hope for his well being he is all right, and god bless syria and the baath party for pretecting our human right in an islam country.
Hi Billy, Osama was just practicing his right to free speech, and there is nothing at all wrong with that. He shouldn’t be imprisoned and tortured, especially without either a trial or a legitimate charge.
There are many rights within Syria that are not protected.. and this case is clearly a testament to this fact. If Osama is indeed imprisoned merely for his criticism of the government and its economic policies then he should be freed at once for it is a grave abuse of his human rights.

Esra’a
Soon governments would be frustrated arresting bloggers, too many of them, millions of bloggers, how can they arrest all of them? Not possible.
As I said on my previous post, “Osama should of been fully aware of the implications he can cause upon himself” No matter the circumstance, we are all aware that the Syrian government on how sensitive they are when the general public start criticizing them. “I think you parents would of taught you that” Now, compared to the Iraq Christians, Palestinian Christians, etc etc…..I am sure they leave in total fear even though the Americans and UN are on the ground. Having said that, I have not notice the crisis for Christians getting better over there. Nearly every country on earth, there human right are fraudulent, So get with program, keep you mouth shut and probably you can leave your life normal, because the fact is, we don’t leave in a perfect world and there is no USA or UN supporting you rights, however you have the baath party protecting you from the narrow minded extremist. Have some awareness before you start opening your month to a bigger power….
Also, no one know whether if he is being tortured or not, thats all propaganda until proven.
Billy,
I think you are proving yourself to be either quite ignorant of the situation or maybe quite scared of it. I do not blame you for the latter. I would also like to point out that Syria is not an Islamic state, as you should know with the freedom that you do have to practice your Christianity. I am Syrian, and I love that country, but I am also awake enough to realise that the social/political and economic sysmtems in place are not sufficient for its civil society to properly flourish. I admit that I can speak more freely because I am not currently living there. But fear should not keep us quiet or ignorant. We need to stand up for the rights of people like Osama, otherwise nothing will ever change.
Well said, Tamara.
Hi Guys,
I Think I know what billy is on about I am syrian but not from syria.
Honestly dude, your worng in one area, syria is entirly run by islamic especially the political/social/economic areas and have a greater population then christians, therefore it is an islamic country, google it! : D……..And I dont blame him for being scared cuz if you stand up for what is right then you might as well wear a t shirt thats says target here. lol! But hey as the world changes so does other countries that are insufficient in areas which are not up to current standards- maybe not now but maybe the next generation will be more open to stability….who f**king knows if its bad for christn in syria, all my relo over their are quite happy and say you dis someone and you will get the dis back…..hmmm wonder what that means.
referring to thsi comment…lol
“Have some awareness before you start opening your month to a bigger power”
Anyone else note the irony of an Assyrian named “Osama”?
Hi Esra’a,
This is a quick note to let you know that Osama was released today from prison.
Check Ankawa Online for more details at this link.
Thanks Fay, I just alerted the relevant people about this.
This was a very good news. The fist time I hear of a blogger being freed. This could bring much hope in the process of freeing the bloggers. Osama, happy to see you back home. Lets hope for the other bloggers’ release.
Hi ….
I am Osama Edward Mousa ( the released blogger) I just want to thank all of you for your support …. I love all of you … and respect all opinions.
contact me plz.
The Syrian Arab government is not a civilize government, and the country that they run turned it to become undeveloped.
Those Arab have no right to govern Assyrian people, whom are the indigenous people of Syria and whole Middle East. Those Arab are Arab, and came into Syria and took the land by force.
Assyrian should not take the matter slightly, as nothing happened. The terrorist activities of the government of Syria to subject indigenous Assyrian people to harm and death should all take note of that. It is only with respect, love and help to Assyrian, that a Syrian Arab government can win mercy, otherwise, whatever they have done, nothing goes into deletion from the history books of Assyrian and the world.
May the God Jesus help Assyrian in Syria from the hands of Islamic Arab government.
Do you really believe that the Syrian Arab Islamic government let the indigenous Assyrian, Mr. Osama Edward Mousa go free? Think again.
Their abuse, and smashing, kicking, beating are not new. Mr. Osama Edward Mousa is not free mentally, after being beaten in Syrian Arab Islamic jail. Where is the right of Mr. Mousa, and what was the charges to kidnap him and confined him?
Who will pay for the damage done on Mr. Mousa?
If you think as nothing happen, you should think, that Syria is not a United States, France, Canada… Syria Arab is a country that never respect any law.
Syria Arab government should compensate Mr. Mousa with money, and issue a full report to be posted in internet, so, the confusion of their hate toward Assyrian, the indigneous people, can be understood.
Once again, I don’t think Mr. Mousa is free.
