Intensified persecution of Baha’is in Iran

May 15th, 2008Prema

From: http://news.bahai.org/story/632

“Six Bahá’í leaders in Iran were arrested and taken to the notorious Evin prison yesterday in a sweep that is ominously similar to episodes in the 1980s when scores of Iranian Bahá’í leaders were summarily rounded up and killed.”

More on this later, I wanted to get the word out on these arrests that happened on early Wednesday morning, May 14th 2008.

  1. This is really a waste of time by Ahmadinejad and his conservative allies. There is no conspiracy, no coup, no subversion, nothing! yet they waste state time and resources chasing ghosts. These strong souls will probably be interrogated for information that is easily available on the Internet. VEVAK has a huge list of people they make follow the Baha’is and spy on them. I bet those guys get bored…

  2. Reading the news stories that are appearing makes it sound like this is not the normal MO of the government. Looks like Iran is feeling very comfortable and save to take such visible action arresting the entire leadership of the community. My guess is that this will not be the end of this very sad story.

    please keep us posted,

  3. Prema,
Thank you for the information, the least thing is to let others know what is happening. One can clearly foretell that the constant persecution of Bahais in Iran will make Iranians embrace the faith more than ever. History is the evidence of when Iranians are under pressure and how they react. Well, it is not an over night reflection, but gradually it will happen. The followers of the faith will suffer, but the faith will flourish. Ah I see this so clearly Prema.

  6. So its official, they are charged with “assisting Zionism”. A baseless charge propagated by hollow mullahs.

  7. Omid
    Hi dear
    They haven’t released them yet?
Is any one trying to get them out ? You know what Omid, the mullahs do not wish to recognize Bahais at the same time they feel jealous that bahias have a pacific pilgrimage to Israel and they can practice their faith there and visit theri holy shrine. We need a movement to make the bahais faith recognized in Iran. I mean before any thing else, before thinking about major changed in the whole system, that might take a long time, but right now, because there are many Bahais in Iran and because of the way they are being treated..

  8. Why do these people do this

  9. Samandar, I wish I knew, if they say it is because of their savior ( the Shiite avior) , why they don’t mistreat the Ahmadiyya folowers? They believe that their thris savior is ruling and they have the same names as the ones shiites belive. Bahais are persecuted specifically, I cannot understand myself why them, and every one knows they are such nice people..
