“Quenching The Light” is a powerful video that documents the ongoing persecution of the Baha’i minority in Iran. I recommend everyone to watch this and pass it along in order to spread awareness.

In 1983, the ABC news network also featured an exclusive program on the persecution of Baha’is, which we translated into Arabic so more people can know about this in the region and you may find the video here.

Sadly, you can see that not much of this has changed.

But it will. We need to work with each other in order to ensure that.

It is time to get over ourselves and beyond our differences.

You believe in this, and I believe in that. Big deal. What can we come to believe in together?

I watched the first few minutes, and couldn’t proceed. The persecution of Baha’is will forever be a dark spot in the history of Iran, with over 200 executed since the Revolution, for none other than being a Baha’i.

Kawthar, we can get ourselves in big trouble when we put our ideas and our beliefs ahead of the welfare of other people.

I don’t know why the Baha’is are being persecuted. But whatever the reason, it is not justified, and it stems from the arrogance of believing that we know it all, and we know it better, and we’re so sure of ourselves that we can’t even tolerate the possibility that others may have a legitimate right to think and believe as they wish.

That kind of attitude bespeaks a weakness of belief. If you really believed strongly in your religion, you wouldn’t have to persecute others in defense of your beliefs. Your beliefs would sustain themselves on the basis of the rightness of your convictions. When you have to kill and persecute others it says that there is a weakness in your belief system, and in your thinking, and that you’re trying to buttress your position by scapegoating others.

Any idea or belief, taken to an extreme, becomes its own undoing. To persecute others in defense of your religion is a contradiction in terms.
