Common sense and a love of their children caused Sumaya and Amjad to walk away from the suicide mission, and from a life of terror.

There are things that are worth dying for, but even less things worth killing for. It’s just that Al Qaeda, and their ilk, do not represent enough of those things. And so, because it made no sense to them, Sumaya and Amjad walked away.

Therein is the hope for mankind; for simple people to use their common sense, and to decide for themselves what is worth dying for, and what is worth killing for. Common sense is how God speaks to us, if we care to listen. And if we listen closely, we may well conclude that we were put on this good earth to live; not to kill, and not to die before our time.

It does not matter how passionate we are about the things we happen to believe. What matters is what makes sense. Sumaya and Amjad walked away because they sought to make sense of their lives, and to give their lives a sense of meaning. We should follow their example and walk away from the things that fill our lives with death, destruction, and despair. We owe it to ourselves and to our children to bring meaning into our lives instead.
