Promising More?
December 29th, 2008300 dead and over 1000 injured, and Israel is promising more. This begs the question: when you are in the process of attacking a besieged people who have been under a blockade for months and who are just emerging from a “truce” under which they suffered more border closings, blackouts and fuel shortages than at any other non-truce time, what exactly is “more”?
Mahmoud Abbas in Egypt has latched on to the massacre as a way to blame Hamas for giving the Israelis an excuse to attack Gaza. As though the rockets were the beginning of this tragedy. As though the West Bank is a paradise.

Thank you Tasnim for this text of yours.
West bank is not much better than Gaza. My relatives there live a life under occupation and poverty. They have very difficult life there too..
And rockets, these homemade rockets.. How many israelis were murdered with them? Just one..
How many gazans were murdered within attacks of Israeli modern troops? 300..
Just how our world is full of injustice and blind people..
Homemade rockets. You make them sound like toys. They are not toys and you know they are not toys and more than one person has been killed. I cannot tell you exactly how many but I can tell you with certainty that on one day, August 3, 2006, 130 rockets were sent from Gaza into Israel in a 90 minute period, 8 people were killed and dozens were wounded.
There have been almost two thousand rockets shot into Israel from Gaza since the disengagement and every single one of those rockets have been aimed directly into civilian areas, aimed directly at homes and schools and women and children.
Gaza is a highly populated area. If the Israelis were targeting civilians, there would be hundreds, even thousands of civilians dead. No. Israel is carefully targeting the terrorists who are shooting these rockets at Israeli civilians, at Israeli homes and schools and women and children.
Listen to the leaders of Hamas, who are proud of the way they make targets of Palestinian women and children:
“A Hamas representative in the PA legislative council this year expressed pride in the fact that women and children are used as human shields in fighting Israel. He described it as part of a “death industry” at which Palestinians excel, and explained that the Palestinians “desire death” with the same intensity that Israelis “desire life.”
The following is the full text of the comments by Hamas representative Fathi Hamad: “For the Palestinian people death became an industry, at which women excel and so do all people on this land: the elderly excel, the Jihad fighters excel, and the children excel. Accordingly [Palestinians] created a human shield of women, children, the elderly and the Jihad fighters against the Zionist bombing machine, as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: We desire death as you desire life.”
This is why Palestinian civilians die, because Hamas puts them on the front line, and like cowards, they hide behind the innocent. The injustice the Palestinian people suffer from is inflicted upon them by their chosen leaders.
You are absolutely correct! Hamas might have agreed to a substantial truce if the blockade was lifted. If they continue to declare Gaza as an “independent” land, then the situation will continue to get worse. An “independent” land is one without a blockade, and where the government is fully responsible for it’s citizens. Israel is responsible because it controls resources that can enter into Gaza. Unless the Palestinians are in control of this, fighting will continue!
