Urgent: We need more volunteers in Jordan

January 13th, 2009Ali Dahmash (Jordan)

On Monday and right after work, I went to Aramex Warehouse in (Al Qastal) that is 20 minutes drive from the 7th Circle. Aramex is the leading carrier and logistic company in the middle east covering Europe, North America and Asia. The warehouse is 5 times bigger than Costco or Sam’s Club in the US.

We were a group of people who volunteered to help organize the donations received for Gaza. So to speed the process of packing the parcels and items and sent them ASAP to Gaza thru the Hashemite Donations Committee that will handle then to the UNRWA, Aramex needed more volunteers. Aramex is gathering the donations and shipping all items from different Arab countries for FREE. It has allocated a team to be responsible for this huge operation. There were volunteers from all ages, men, women, kids, Americans, Jordanians, Palestinians, Christians & Muslims.

Donations are still coming from Jordan, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Syria. Yesterday we unloaded 3 trucks that arrived from Dubai and there are still 25 on the way. The whole process is complicated and I never knew it needed all that logistics and details to organize the donations.

Some of the work that was given to us:
1. Organizing meal packages for families
2. Organizing items together (Rice, Sugar, Canned food, Medicines, Blankets, Clothes)
3. Unloading from trucks
4. Uploading ready packages on trucks Yesterday

We were a group of 50 people and we are understaffed, therefore I’m calling for more people to join us.

Volunteers from all ages (Male & female), operation hours are from (2 – 9 pm) (Tuesday – Thursday) and might be extended. If anyone needs a lift, we can organize a car pooling in front of Smart Buy at 6pm.

Please spread the word.
