We are young digital natives reaching out across seemingly impenetrable national, social, political, ethnic, and sectarian barriers, employing the freedom created by media platforms to demand and create our own civil discourse.

Bitfilm Festival Calls for Entries

It’s really an honor for us to take part in this year’s Bitfilm Festival, which will take part in Hamburg and Tel Aviv to recognize and reward the best digital films in various categories. In the past two years we have created some pretty successful digital videos which forced us to quickly realize and take advantage of this medium, allowing us to campaign for certain causes more effectively. You can watch these videos at CENSEO, Mideast Youth’s production arm. Several of these comics and videos have found themselves on prominent newspapers including in Egypt, Lebanon, Bahrain, thousands of blogs worldwide and most recently on South African TV.

Here’s the Bitflm press release below, which contains all the relevant information!

Bitfilm Festival Calls for Entries, Looking for the World’s Best Digital Films:

  • Deadline: July 1
  • Opening event in Hamburg on August 13
  • Online voting from August 13 to September 24
  • Closing event and award show in Tel Aviv on October 1
  • 10,000 Euros in prize money
  • As of today, digital filmmakers throughout the world may submit their films to the Bitfilm Festival to win one of the five prestigious Bitfilm Awards. Only the best 3D animations, digital hypbrids, Machinima movies and Realtime demos submitted online until July 1 will be selected by the Bitfilm team to compete in a worldwide election on the Internet.

The Bitfilm Festival will start with an opening event in its hometown Hamburg (Germany) on August 13. It will end with a closing event including the award show in Tel Aviv on October 1.

These are the award categories with a cumulated prize money of 10,000 Euros:

  • 3D SPACE AWARD – computer generated 3D animations
  • FIX MIX AWARD - digitally composed hybrid films which mix various techniques
  • MACHINIMA AWARD – films shot live inside computer games
  • REALTIME AWARD – animations generated in realtime (aka, Demos.)
  • New in 2009: the POLITICOOL AWARD which features digital animations and mash-ups with a political message (we’re happily participating in this one, with 3 video submissions!)

In the last years, our users have submitted more and more political films, the festival’s director Aaron Koenig comments this innovation. “The internet is full of digital animations and mash-ups on political issues. In Germany, we have a year of many elections, the ‘Superwahljahr’ and our new host city Tel Aviv is located in the politically very complex and interesting Middle East, so it was just natural for us to introduce this new section.”

Films may be submitted until July 1 here.

We’d especially love to see many submissions from the Middle East! We are sure that many of those fit under the new and very relevant Politicool category.

Start submitting videos, spread the word, and most importantly, good luck!

    2. what about arabs …is there any arabic film or as usual ?

It’s actually not unusual for Arabs to get involved in such things. There are tons of film makers who get involved and this digital festival is certainly no exception. If you’re an Arab with a relevant creation, you can submit it.
