LAUNCHED: Widget generator to raise awareness on imprisoned bloggers, journalists and activists!
May 12th, 2009Setting up campaigns is not an easy task if you don’t have the right tools. There was one tool that we at Mideast Youth always felt was missing, and that was the ability to easily create and embed a widget to help spread the word on imprisoned bloggers, journalists or activists. So we simply felt the urge to build one! And we did. Here it is!
We did our best to make this generator as customizable as possible, so that anyone can add a personal touch. We hope to launch soon in Arabic and Farsi as well, but first wanted to use this opportunity to gather as much feedback as possible on how to improve this! Currently, the generator comes with:
A photo browser
A countup (when you insert the date of an arrest, it automatically counts up how many days this individual has been imprisoned and places them on a widget.)
You may insert a link to a campaign, a post, a news article, or anywhere a person can find more information about the arrest.
It enables others to embed the same widget you created, or to "tell a friend" about an arrest or an incident via e-mail.
It allows you to generate a slideshow with "Next" and "Previous" arrows to help others find out about other incidents that you feel passionate about. So once you embed a widget, it will take the place of one widget only, but will allow others to flip through them easily. A great way to create awareness about more than one prisoner!
You don't need to create a widget if you don't wish to, you can simply "Get the HTML" of any widget that was previously created and whose mission you support.

A great tool, more then worthy to be further developed, enhanced and implemented, by all Human Rights organisations around the world!
Announcing it to ALL HROs would enhance the abillity of every HRO to inform and urge people to participate in the work to end violations of human rights! To make violations faster, better and to the point known to people!
One of the best tools I have seen till now!
