alkasir is confirmed to store no personal information
June 3rd, 2009We noted in the past upcoming security updates to alkasir, a server/client implementation that allows the tracking, analysis, and circumvention of website censorship:
After the beta launch of alkasir and over 9,000 downloads later, we gathered all feedback we received from people who helped test the software and took many feature requests and citicism into serious consideration. The most vital request thus far is the need for strict privacy so that even in the event of a hack, no one’s IP would be leaked, and people could use alkasir with confidence.
After much hard work from Yemeni developer Walid Al-Saqaf, the mastermind behind alkasir, the software is now confirmed to store no personal information of anyone reporting blocked websites or using the tunnel services. Walid further adds, “I also deleted all previous records. It is now much safer for people and the points raised earlier about anonymity are now dealt with.” This is of course great news for us users who rely on the tool for our circumvention needs.
We hope now that people are much more encouraged to try the software out, report blocked sites in your country and browse them freely. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us with your questions!
We hope that you will help us spread the word about these significant updates, and for the tool in general.
