@Shahrazad & @Mohammad, Thanks for your responses. You both are right. Ahmadinejad’s presidency has completely changed the discussion.

You would be surprised to learn that the discussion (as far as I can tell) is still relevant outside Iran and among many older people I know in Iran who lost interest in politics years ago already. My dear husband just wrote a post about this at View from [outside] Iran.

What would you say to those people if you could?

(BTW, I tried to change my display name to reflect my new status outside Iran and my real name: Tori, but it didn’t work.)

Hardliners would vote, no matter what. Others make this point: Ahmadinejad’s presence in presidential palace made your question irrelevant.

You know Easther. Now this question of “to vote or not to vote” is not discussed much. At least inside Iran, the atmosphere is extremely political and there’s no space to debate such a thing. Campaigns are at its heat now.
Everywhere you go, the big question and debate among people is more often “Whom you vote for”
