Iraq new wave of death
August 25th, 2009I read this in the New York Times and thought it may be of interest here:
Insurgents struck at the heart of the Iraqi government on Wednesday in two huge and deadly bombings that exposed a new vulnerability after Americans ceded control for security here on June 30. Nearby American soldiers stood by helplessly — despite the needs of hundreds of wounded lying among the dead — waiting for a request for assistance from Iraqi officials that apparently never came
…
The bombings, the worst since American forces handed over security responsibilities for cities to Iraq at the end of June, shook the Iraqi government’s confidence that it was ready and able to secure the nation.Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki called for a reassessment of his security measures, calling the attacks “a vengeful response” to his recent, optimistic order to remove blast walls from the streets of Baghdad. …
The explosions, one close to the heavily fortified Green Zone and the other less than three miles away, sent plumes of smoke billowing over the capital, ripped a gaping hole in a compound wall and set cars ablaze, trapping drivers inside.
…
Up to twelve separate incidents took place in Baghdad yesterday with the death toll standing at 87 and some 550 injured according to the Ministry of Health (Media sources report the death toll as high as 95). These figures are expected to rise in the coming days as more information becomes available. The attacks started at around 10.45am and took place over a period of approximately 35 minutes. The main casualties occurred at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance offices – both targeted by vehicle borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED). The Ministry of Health was also reported to have been damaged however WHO has confirmed that this was not in fact the case.
The heaviest loss of life took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where at least 60 people are reported to have been killed and over 250 wounded. The building has suffered extensive damage with most of the front face of the 10 story structure blown off by the force of the explosion.
The Ministry of Interior said that the attacks on the Ministries occurred within three minutes of each other and were then followed by improvised explosive devices (IED) in other parts of the city including Salhiya and Al Baiyaa neighbourhoods. Three incidents of indirect fire also took place in the International Zone with the point of impact in the vicinity of the Cross Swords and the US Embassy.
And this from the AP:
Attackers paid $10,000 (£6,060) to get a bomb-laden truck past checkpoints and next to the Iraqi finance ministry in last week’s attacks, one of the suspected masterminds said in a confession broadcast today. Seeking to fend off criticism over security lapses, the Iraqi military released what it said was the confession of a Sunni man it identified as the planner of one of the two suicide truck bombings. Iraqi lawmakers and other officials have traded blame and called for investigations into how the bombers were able to get the trucks so close to government institutions in the heart of the capital.
The security pact also contains a provision that allows the Iraqi government to request assistance from the U.S. military if it feels security conditions warrant, this seams a good idea to Iraqi people than trusting their own weak Iraqi troops.
this is part of the fall down of the image of Iraqi government as the strong hold army that will take over after US troops leave Iraq.
Today, Iraqi people want to know how we spend millions of Iraq money on building an army that sell it posts for few thousands dollars ,and how those people will not sell Iraq borders for more
Iraqi prime minster hides behind accusing radical fighters from surrounding countries ,till today no Iraqi leader can point the finger at the real country how give money to armed groups to kill Iraqi people
Iraqi government has to change their policy of ignoring the problem and focusing on accusations ,Iraq problem lay in the false national reconciliation between all it groups and ethincities ,making it possible for our neighborhoods in the east to play on each party and group greed for power and make Iraqi people pay a high price of blood and displacement

Iraqi government? is there really Iraqi government or the whole of Iraq is occupied by the “democratic” Americans? You can never impose a corrupt government of collaborator and ask for security.
The Americans, just like the zionists in Palestine, formed a corrupt government of collaborators who dont have nothing of the authority but just cosmetics to beautify the ugly face of occupation. The americans aim at the Iraqi oil and resources, they are devastating the country, just like their zionist peers in Palestine who just want the land and the resources but the hell with the people !!!
The Americans are responsible for every Iraqi injured and dead and they MUSTN’T feel secure as long as they are occupying Iraq.
I believe they, the Americans, are the sole responsible for the last wave of terrorist attacks just to tell the whole world that they (the American occupiers) cant trust anybody to ensure the oil of Iraq, and the hell with the Iraqis (for the American occupiers.)
Is this the promised “Democracy”? The Hell with the Americans and their zionist peers, the same tool, the same mentality, the same hellish blind and inhuman power …. They must leave Iraq for the Iraqis… We, the people, are sick of their “democracy” and their “Democratic” mission that heaps all those victims of the Iraqi innocents !!!
Sami, the bedouin.
wow, you are a complete stero type…. Sami, you disgust me, you are the souls on this earth that need to perish for the furthuring of mans kingdom. Let me explain something, my government is not perfect, but no government is perfect, and no government will ever be perfect, but explain to me WHY most of the middle east is stuck in the past, without technological improvements… If our government is so horrible, why arent we killing our neigbors? Its an interesting thought seeing as if our government is so poor and our people are so horrible, that we dont kill each other, we dont strap bombs to our selfs and run trucks straight into innocent people and kill them. This is pathetic seeing as some people are animals and you are completely defending them. And the USA is the most diverse country in the entire world, I am a 17 year old male that lives in Southern California where the Hispanics actually now have the majority of the entire state, so do I go and run a bomb into the heart of their people, no instead I learn their language, learn their culture, both of our peoples are working together to create a country where everyone can live together. I honestly think I eat more mexican food a week beacuse their is so much around me then i eat, what you would consider American food.
Wamith Al-Kassab you are a great soul, asking for help when in need, I realize that my country has caused your people grief, and sorrow, but for you to stand up and ask for help, is the strongest I have heard in a long time. Oh and by the way, you do know that Japan recently bought most of the iraqi oil, not the USA, so stop saying we want oil, and im not denying that we dont, but now we are in a pickle, we are there, and trying to get out, but if we get out, how much more corrupt will everything be. Stop talking about how my country is horrible, sorry to say but their is a reason we are considered a world power, and we will always be until the end of time, or the end of the world, so accusing us, is doing no good, why not look within your self to try and look at ways to help.
Our troops are being pulled beacuse we realize what we did is wrong. But as soon as we leave more and more death occurs… Does this not show you something. And really cut it out with the zionist, you created the zionist, you do realize you waged war, they offered peace, they offered land, some sort of deal, and you continued to kill innocent people by launching rockets, you hide hezbolah under a god damn hospital, spit on your self for once, look within, with people like you the world will always be horrible, you can think what ever you want about everyone else, but one day, if you continue what your doing, Isreal will do to you what they did to Lebanon, they are fed up, stop killing and peoples minds will start to change, the world will change. Try a new approach, I have great hate for the Zionist, but at the same time i have grievance, they went from the holocaust to WAR, and more and more death, they have a reason to be afraid, in the last 60 years, they were taken from their homes, killed by the nazis, burned alive, worked to death, killed in the millions… They have a reason to worry for their safety, they went from their home to a new land, and faced more death.
take the African Americans in america, taken from their homeland, brought to us as slaves, and we used them and abused them beacuse we believed we were better. Finally people saw this was wrong and we killed our own people for their rights, and sure they did not get absolute freedom right away, but over time, of peaceful demonstrations and sit ins, MY people gave, and we still feel grievance for our ancestors and how they treated our brothers, if you believed in anything of religion you would believe we were all brothers and sisters, no matter who you are or where your from, i show sympathy for them, and now we have a President that is not black nor white, but both, the time has changed, we all live in peace and harmony, all religions, all races, and it is my country that is wrong.
but people liek Sami dont deserve peace. The Americans are leaving, and once we leave you will see corruption, you will see death, and then you will beg for our return. We just attempted to allow the Afghani a free election, and they are trying their hardest to build something great and new, and we are already hearing of corruption, but the Americans did not interfere. They are trying to build a new home, where women have the equal chance of men, where they do not have to fear going to vote for their future. Where all religions in afghanistan get an equal say, that just beacuse of SMALL religious differences, they do not deserve to be oppresed. We are trying to help people in one way or another and if someone occupied our country i would be furious, and ask them to leave. But what happens when we leave, it starts all over again. Think before you speak…
Thank you so much benevolent Americans, you did and still do all the virtuous deeds for the blue eyes of our people !!!
Sami, You are a very racist person, Your worse then the Nazis, I hope you perish in the depths of hell. And not all white people are blue eyed
Jonny, You are a very racist person, Your worse then the zionists, I hope you perish in the depths of hell. And not all arabs people are dumb to believe your lies of “mass-destruction” weapons !!!
