The addiction to migrant labor and servants is damaging, not just to the workers, but to the Gulf culture. It fosters a false sense of entitlement, ethnic chauvinism, inequality, and encourages sloth and laziness. For example, a rich Saudi family will not hire a poor Saudi woman to be their maid, because of ethnic pride, but will hire a foreigner to be the maid. So the poor woman who wants to work to earn money is left jobless and dependent on others. The economy cannot be like this forever. I know a well-to-do individual in Dubai who refuses to hire a foreign servant; she manages the house and shopping herself. I think she wants to teach her daughters the value of self reliance and hard work.
