Description: I'm Israeli, Jewish, rather secular, living in Jerusalem/Al Quds since 1995, when I immigrated together with hubby and 2 babies. Born in Austria in 1959. Fluent in German, French, English and Hebrew. For 10 years I've been busy raising my kids, working hard, trying to learn the language and integrate into a world that is very different from Europe, which I left at age 36. I didn't have much time to care about politics, not much interest, either. I've always had my rather left wing, rather pro-Palestinian/pro-peace/pro-justice convictions - but in fact I knew nothing - nothing about what is really going on behind the screen of media and governmental declaration. - Until one day, unexpectedly, out of the blue, I was "thrown" into the reality "behind" through an unfortunate and bad event I got involved into without my choice... Through people I got to know around this event I got my first clear look of "the other side" - the "ennemy side" - the "Palestinian view" of reality... Since then, I've learned a lot... I've realized that I had been lied to all along and had believed a lot of these lies. Slowly by slowly I got close to Palestinans who became friends, and through them I came to understand what it's like to be born/to live on "the other side"... This is not something "mainstream" in Israel - most people don't know or even have never really spoken to a Palestina and have no idea how life is like behind the "Separation Wall". In this, I am definitely not a "mainstream" Israeli. I'm "human" just like my friends in Palestine (= Gaza and the West Bank). Until I registered here on ME Youth, I wrote on a Yahoo Blog which I posted here as my "homepage".
