Monday Morning Roundup

We encourage readers to turn to multiple and diverse news sources for accurate information and balanced commentary. The goal of these roundups is simple: to offer a sample of news from around the world related to the intersection of “east” and “west” and the status of women. If you have articles or other items you’d like to suggest, e-mail Todd at todd@findingbibi.com.

  1. Great diverse assortment of news topics. Taqwacore is an intriguing subject which I’d never heard of before, and won’t feel qualified to comment about until I’ve learned much more.

Ashamed to admit I found “The worst sexual assault prevention tips ever” an irresistible title, and just as horrifying to read as I’d expected. Sadly, a few good ideas … See Morewere hidden in that mess, but even those were mostly obscured by the bizarre victim-blaming sexism. (Advising people to trust their own instincts is usually good advice, for example, but here it is obscured by advice that seemingly aims to make elevators and stairs equally terrifying.)

  2. Hey Kevin – Thanks for the comments. We try to keep the roundups diverse, putting out articles that we feel both speak our minds and ones that irk us and some in between. We miss a ton of good material, so feel free to pass on and we’ll incorporate as we’re able. You’ll be seeing a lot from us on Taqwacore and the various bands involved, as it’s such a fascinating movement.
