When Sexism Was Sexy

Hit shows like “Mad Men” depict an era when being smooth and being sexist were, to many people, one in the same. While things have certainly improved, some industries seem blind to the changes. Take advertising. A gander at the Super Bowl ad cycle this season shows much of the same: real men are violent; they eat whatever tastes good; they care primarily about the TVs or cars; they are tamers of women. While the images are different, the message in those ads and those of the “Mad Men” era aren’t.
