Yemen's Ministry of Communication banned in January 2008 yemenportal.net, the first news search engine of its kind in the Arab world. The website provides Internet users in Yemen with up-to-date news and opinion articles from all perspectives without censorship or bias. The basic principle that yemenportal.net was founded on was to not resort to filtering news content from any source regardless of its affiliation because it respects the right of Yemeni citizens to access information and learn about the different view points.
We, the undersigned, respectfully ask the Yemeni authorities to unblock YemenPortal.net and hence allow the people of Yemen full access to information online.
مناشدة لرفع الحجب في اليمن عن موقع يمن بورتال نت
لقد قامت وزارة الاتصالات اليمنية في يناير 2008 بحجب موقع يمن بورتال نت وهو أول محرك بحث من نوعه في الوطن العربي. محرك البحث يمن بورتال نت منح مستخدمي الإنترنت في اليمن فرصة الإطلاع والتعرف على الأخبار والآراء المرتبطة باليمن دون تدخل أو رقابة. ومن مبادئ يمن بورتال نت أن تسمح لجميع المواقع أن يكون لها حضور وأن تتمكن من إيصال أخبارها وآرائها للقراء في اليمن دون تعريضها للحظر أو الرقابة. وبهذا تمكن الموقع من رفع سقف حرية التعبير وحق الحصول على المعلومة في الأراضي اليمنية.
نحن، الموقعون على هذه العريضة ادناه، نطالب السلطات اليمنية برفع الحجب عن يمن بورتال نت الذي بدلاً من حجبه، يستحق التقدير لدوره الريادي في نشر المعلومة وإعطاء جميع المصادر فرصة متساوية للوصول للقراء في اليمن
